Step 1. Warm-up and leading-in
Tell Ss the date today and ask them when New Year’s Day is.
Tell them a new year is coming. A year’s plan stars with spring. What are you going to do
next year? The plans you make for yourself on New Year’s Day are called New Year’s resolutions.
Step 2. Presentation
Introduce Mike’s New Year’s resolution and teach 5 new phrases with the help of pictures.

Read New Year’s Resolutions together then let Ss match the pictures with resolutions.
Number the pictures1-5.

Ask Ss to say something they are going to do next year. Write some of the plans on the
blackboard. Then let them work in pairs and talk about their own New Year’s resolutions.
Step 3. Listening and speaking practice.

Tell Ss here are three students(Lucy、Kim and Mike) talking about their New Year’
resolutions. Let Ss listen carefully and circle the resolutions in 1a.
