In one way, it may be thought that failure(失败) is a part of life. In another, failure may be regarded(视作) as a step towards success.
The “spider-story” is often told as an example of this. Robert Bruce, leader of the Scots in the 13th century, was hiding in a hole on a hill from the English. He watched a spider(蜘蛛) making a web. Bruce is said to have got confidence from this and to have gone on to beat the English. Edison, too, the inventor the light bulb(电灯泡), made hundreds of models that failed before he found the right way to make one.
So what? First, always think about your failure. What caused it? Were you in high spirit then? What can you do so that things will go right the next time?
Second, is the goal you are trying to reach the right one? Try to do some thinking about what your real goals may be. Think about this question: “If I am successful in this, what will it get me?” This may help to prevent failure in the things you shouldn’t be doing anyway.
The third thing to remember about failure is that it’s a part of life. Learn to “Live with yourself” even though you may have failed. Remember, “You can’t win them all.”
31. Robert Bruce’s example shows us that _________.
A. people who fail are not lonely
B. animals will help people sometimes
C. nature will help us if we are hard-working
D. confidence is important for one to be successful
32. If you are not sure about what success will get you, you’d better________.
A. change your goal B. go on with your goal
C. not care for that D. work even harder on your goal
33. It can be learned from the passage that________.
A. one should try not to fail B. one’s failure is another’s success
C. one should take failure seriously D. one should learn lessons from failure

Hayao Miyazaki was born in Tokyo on January 5, 1941. As a boy, he liked to read and draw cartoons. After graduating from university in 1963, Miyazaki joined the Toei Animation Company. At Toei, he worked on many animated movies, like the famous Puss in Boots. In 1984, he made Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind, which was based on a comic book he wrote. It’s cool, it’s hot, and everyone is doing it. People talked about it often, and friends tell other friends how good they look. Sound like a fashion? It’s actually another trend(流行): “blog”. What’s a blog? A blog is a personal online diary. The word “blogger” means a person who writes diaries online.
Many bloggers are teens who’ve been logging(记日志) onto sites to discuss anything in their lives. Many of today’s teenagers are not afraid to openly discuss everything in their lives. Teens complain about parents and homework. They share diaries, post their favourite songs and show pictures of theirs. They write their own poems, say something about their girlfriends or boyfriends and complain to each other or offer support. But mostly they just write down what they do every day.
However, many parents are worried about these young bloggers. Parents see the kids talking about how they lost themselves in playing online games last weekend and how they don’t like studying. They are using language that is surprising to their parents. Besides hearing from their friends, teen bloggers also get messages from strangers. Most of the time, they’re older men asking to meet teenage girls. “These strange men are dangerous for my kids. They sometimes teach my kids bad words,” said Cara Cabral, a mother of two.
Many teens and young adults know it’s not safe to use blogs on the Internet. They know they are putting information about themselves in a place they can be seen by anyone. But teens are unlikely to give up these new communication tools that have become a way of life for many of them.

Many kinds of birds live in the United States, but the number of the birds is becoming smaller every year. One of the leading reasons is the growing number of pet cats. By keeping your pet cats in your home, you can help give birds a better possible chance to live.
? Of the 90 million pet cats in this country, about two—thirds are allowed to go outside. It is said that these cats kill hundreds of millions of birds each year, as well as billions of small animals such as rabbits and field mice.
They can also bring illness to the animals that live in people's yard(院子), further weakening the health of the natural populations.
Allowing pet cats to go outside is not just bad for birds and wildlife, it's also bad for the cats themselves. Outdoor cats can get sick very easily. They are in danger from traffic and attacks(攻击)from other animals. In fact, outdoor cats usually don't live past the age of five, while indoor cats often live to be 17 or older.

Some students are for this. They think it provides us with a good chance to communicate with each other and develop our friendship. They can relax after hard work at school. However, some other students are against this. They think it is a waste of time and money and can have a bad influence on the teenagers’ studies and growth. I think it is not easy for our parents to make money and we should put our effort into our studies. ( I think it is OK to give our friends some small gifts for their birthday. But it is not a good idea to spend much money on the gifts.)
