Learning objectives:

Teaching procedures
Stages Learning activities Teaching purposes
Warming up Step 1. Enjoy a video Get students to enjoy a video about a boy’s weekend activities and lead them to talk about their weekends. To arouse students’ interest and elicit the topic.
Presentation Step 2. Play a guessing game Encourage students to guess what the teacher did last weekend. Guide the students to guess different activities by acting, describing, showing pictures and so on. To elicit new words, phrases and sentence patterns and get the students activated and familiar with the topic.
Drill Step 3: Talk about Lucy’s weekend activities (Picture in 1a) Show students the theme picture and talk about the picture. Ask the students to role play like this: A: What did you do last weekend, Lucy B: I did my homework. Tip1: Reading pictures can help us to get a lot of information. To develop students’ ability of reading pictures for specific information and practice the sentence patterns (“what” question).
Listening practice Step 4.Listening(1b) Lead students to think: how can we write long words while listening Tip2: Just write the first few letters of each word. Get the students to listen and write the day, morning, afternoon and night below each picture. Then the teacher guides the students to report the answers like this: Lucy did her homework on Sunday night. To enable students to finish listening tasks better by using listening strategies and practice the sentence patterns (“when” question).
Listening challenge Step 5. Listening challenge Play some sound clips and get students to guess what her students did last weekend. And encourage students to ask where they did the activities and who they did the activities with. To stimulate students’ curiosity to ask and answer more questions(“where” and “who” questions).
Listening practice Step 6. Listening(2a&2b) Pre-listening Lead students to predict the information by reading the picture. While-listening Task 1: Listen and underline the words you hear. Tip3: Focus on the key words and phrases. Task 2: Listen again and write C for Carol, J for Jack and B for Becky. Tip4: Pay attention to the names of speakers and the voices of different genders. Encourage students to check the answers by making conversations like this: —Who visited his/her grandma —Becky did./Becky visited her grandma. /… Post-listening Imitate and role play Guide them to pay attention to the pronunciation and intonation, especially the incomplete plosion, assimilation and sense group. 1.To help students grasp some listening strategies. 2. To encourage students to predict information (“how” question) according to the picture. 3. To develop students’ speaking abilities by imitating and role playing.
Further task Step 7. Make an interview Show a model video of the interview and encourage students to do an interview in a group of four. Ask the other students to evaluate the interview with the peer-check list. To provide a situation in which students can apply what they have learned and cultivate their sense of enriching weekends.
Assignments Individual work: Listen to 2b and imitate. Group work: Polish the interview. To help students consolidate what they have learned.
