阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。

Meet Liam Mills, the first aid(急救) specialist who provides life-saving support at festivals and events, and he's just 16 years old.
A bit young to be a first aider, aren’t you
You might think that, but in fact I've been doing this for almost a year now. I already have a huge amount of valuable experience.
Why did you join the British Red Cross
I've always been interested in first aid, so when I saw some Red Cross volunteers at a local event I went over for a quick talk. After hearing what they had to say, I jumped at the chance of joining.
What’s the big attraction
As soon as you've treated an injured man, you will never look back. I've treated many types of injury now, from cut fingers to even heart disease cases. It's endlessly challenging and interesting.
What have you learned
I'm now a skilled volunteer, which means I have additional qualifications (资历) on top of my standard first aid certificate (证书). For example, I'm qualified to use Entonox (laughing gas) for pain management. First aid with the Red Cross is a whole lot more than just cleaning and dressing wounds.
Any stand-out memories
Once, my colleague and I attended a call. As we approached the scene, all I could see was someone lying perfectly still on the floor. When you realise that someone is helpless and completely depending on you to do the right thing, you feel this sudden rush of responsibility(责任). But fortunately, our training means we have the confidence and knowledge to deal with such situations.
Best thing about being an event first aider
You get to help people, while also enjoying the chance of going to lots of great events. It really is a win-win situation.

A. is a first aid trainer

24. What can we infer from the text
A. All first aiders can use Entonox.
B. First aiders just do some simple work.
C. Liam Mills still lacks confidence in his work.
D. Liam Mills benefits from his first aid experiences.

Three fish species face extinction due to overfishing, according to an international group.
In a new report, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) added Pacific bluefin tuna to its list of more than 22,000 species in danger of extinction. The tuna was joined by the American eel and Chinese pufferfish.
For 50 years, the IUCN has kept a “Red List” of species that are becoming extinct. In an IUCN news report, Director General Julia Marton-Lefèvre said, “The frequent changes to the IUCN Red List make us realize that our planet is losing its diversity (多样化) of life, largely due to our destructive actions to satisfy our growing needs.”
Marton-Lefèvre called for policy makers to increase the number of protected areas and to see that they are well-managed. “Experts warn that endangered species poorly represented in protected areas are reducing twice as fast as those which are well represented,” she said.
The bluefin tuna is considered a special food in many parts of the world. It is used in traditional Japanese dishes such as sushi and sashimi. A falling population of bluefin tuna could cause the fish to disappear from the Pacific Ocean for good, IUCN experts warn. To prevent extinction, they say limits must be placed on fisheries.
Bruce Collette is the IUCN's tuna and billfish specialist. “The Pacific bluefin tuna market value continues to rise,” Collette said, adding that we need to reduce the number of catches of young fish to improve the species' situation.
The Chinese pufferfish is now listed as “critically endangered”. The fish is found in several protected areas in the Pacific Ocean near China with measures in place to protect it. More needs to be done to prevent extinction, IUCN experts say.
The American eel has joined the Japanese eel on the endangered list due to pollution, habitat loss and overfishing. The American eel is in demand in East Asian food markets as an alternative to the endangered Japanese eel.
28. What do Julia Marton-Lefèvre's words in Paragraph 3 suggest
A. Our planet is always changing.
B. The IUCN can't meet people's needs.
C. Many animal species are already extinct.
D. Human behavior is damaging animals' lives.
29. According to Julia Marton-Lefèvre, policy makers should _____.
A. carry out a strict policy
B. set up more protected areas
C. manage protected areas directly
D. prevent people from catching fish
30. To save Pacific bluefin tuna from extinction, we should _____.
A. stop people from eating them
B. develop the bluefin tuna market
C. forbid overfishing and protect young fish
D. improve the environment of bluefin tuna
31. What would be the best title for the text
A. Fish at risk
B. Species on the Red List
C. Animals facing extinction
D. The IUCN is working to protect fish

Even in challenging economic times, making sure that study abroad is part of our college students' education is an important investment (投资). If we want a new generation(代) of leaders who can be productive in an ever more globalized world, sending our students overseas is not a luxury (奢侈). It's a necessity.
Learning in a different culture and place allows us to see our own challenges as we observe smart people in other lands dealing with similar problems.
American college students understand the value of study abroad. Four out of every five first-year students expect to study overseas. But at any given time, only about 2% of students are able to. Educators are especially concerned that the lack of chance for students from poor socioeconomic backgrounds will cause a “global divide” between students who've benefited from a global education and those who haven't. And students for whom foreign travel is not easily affordable are the ones who benefit most from the experience. As a society, we can help improve the education of our younger generation, and brighten their futures, by making this experience more available.
Is now the time to use valuable public money to send college kids overseas Of course. Our world is one big, rapidly developing marketplace. Employers long for graduates who are multilingual (使用多种语言的) and comfortable in multicultural settings. Study abroad sharpens these skills and helps keep American workers competitive.
Americans who want our next generation to be hands-on with the world — working with international partners against challenges, working competitively in a globalized economy, and having enthusiasm rather than anxiety about other cultures and approaches to existing problems — can get on board with the movement to help our students get a globalized education. Encourage the young people in your lives to get a passport and see the world as a classroom. It's good for America. And it's fun.
32. What is the author's attitude towards study abroad
A. Negative. B. Doubtful.
C. Favorable. D. Cautious.
33. What do educators worry about
A. Students not being able to study abroad.
B. Poor students not receiving a good education.
C. A possible future “global divide” among students.
D. Students not being able to deal with cultural differences.
34. According to Paragraph 4, study abroad _____.
A. is a huge waste of public money
B. helps increase students' competitiveness
C. makes students aware of the challenges they'll face
D. teaches students how to work with international partners
35. It can be inferred from the last paragraph that _____.
A. America's next generation will face many difficulties
B. the author is greatly concerned about America's future
C. Americans are trying hard to get a globalized education
D. the author is worried about young people's development

Our culture is the system we use to build our identity. All living creatures are part of a culture. Even animals have a culture! So what is culture It's the way we behave in a group.

Culture is not limited to individual family groups. The real strength of culture is in larger community (社区) groups. 37 Every society makes rules for itself.
It decides how people should act in different situations. 38 Some are just things that are expected of all members of that society.
Often, cultures can be identified by what the people believe.
Cultures are also known by what they choose to include in their art. Sometimes a society forms around people who speak the same language. Cultures may also be known for their customs. 39
Our cultures help us understand who we are and what we believe. There are very strong emotions (情感) connecting us to our own society. Two different cultures may disagree on something, especially if they both feel strongly about it. When that happens, war is a common result.

The other day, my neighbor asks me if I could help her kid to learn English and I agreed. To become English teacher has always been my dream. So I'll be more than happier to take on the task, but it's also a good chance to improve myself. As to the teaching plans, I think it's important to gain basic knowledges in the textbooks. Polar bears are large white bears with thick fur living only in the Arctic. As the largest meat-eating animals on land, they feed mainly on fish, seals and seabirds.
Polar bears are on the brink of extinction. Global warming is the major reason, because if the ice disappears, there will be no place for them to live on. Another threat to them is man's hunting for their fur and meat.
People can do a lot to keep polar bears from extinction. Firstly, reduce air pollution which is the cause of global warming and ice loss. Secondly, it's time for the government to forbid hunters from killing polar bears.
