Responding to Climate Change (RTCC) will be staging a children's climate change musical in?Durban,?South Africa. Performed by pupils from?Durban's?Addington?Primary School, which educates children from across the African continent, it will stress the importance of climate change through the eyes of a child.

Due to popular demand, RTCC will host two performances in?Durban. More details can be found below.
Both shows will be filmed by Climate Change TV. Footage (片段), musical scores and scripts (剧本) of the musical will be available free of charge on?www.rtcc.org?from January 2017, to enable schools and local drama clubs around the world to stage their own productions.
The musical is produced by RTCC in association with Upstage Musical Productions, a London-based theatrical production house that specialises in writing and producing musical performances for children.
RTCC chief executive James Ramsey said: “Music is a wonderful way to help educate children in the dangers of climate change, and we hope these two performances in?Durban?will inspire generations around the world to do their bit to protect the environment.”
Performance places and dates:
Show 1: Wednesday 30 November, 7:00 pm,?Rio?Conventions Pavilion.
Show 2: Thursday 1 December, 7:00 pm, BAT Centre:?Durban's Premier Arts Hub.

Laura Jacques and Richard Remde were hardly the only couple to get a puppy for Christmas — but the British pair may be the only ones who received?a cloned copy of their beloved dog that day.【出处:21教育名师】
Jacques and Remde's dog, Dylan, died of a heart attack at age 8 last summer after he was found to have a brain tumor (肿瘤).
Fortunately, six months later, the couple became parents to a cloned replacement called Chance.
After Dylan's death, Remde immediately traveled to South Korean lab Sooam with samples of Dylan's DNA in hopes of creating an exact copy of their fur baby. Jacques had heard of dog cloning from a documentary about UK dog owner Rebecca Smith who had her dog, Winnie, cloned.
However, the first sample failed, forcing Remde to once again fly to?South Korea?with a sample from Dylan's body. By this time, Dylan had already been dead for twelve days.【版权所有:21教育】
It's the first time the cloning, which costs $100,000, has succeeded with samples from such a dead pet.
“This is the first case we have had where cells have been taken from a dead dog after a very long time,” said?David Kim, a scientist at Sooam. Sooam alone has produced around 700 cloned dogs.
“It is a controversial topic and there will be people who don't agree with it but there will be a lot of pet owners who would love to be able to do it,” said Jacques.
Two baby dogs were cloned from Dylan's DNA; one surrogate dog (代孕犬) gave birth to pup Chance on Friday, while the second surrogate is still pregnant with the second pup,?Shadow.
“I was much more flooded with emotion at the birth than I expected to be,” said Remde.
“I can't believe how much he looks like Dylan,” added Jacques. “All the colorings and patterns on his body are in exactly the same places as Dylan had them.”
The couple plans to adopt both cloned pups as well as both of the surrogates.

Cosmetic surgery (整容手术) is not something to be entered into lightly. Unfortunately, in this modern world, we have become confused by very narrow standards of beauty. Images of celebrities who never seem to age are seen everywhere these days. We forget the fact that most of these images are the result of super photo manipulation (处理), driven by the incredibly powerful beauty industry. We are all different?—?why should we all look the same? Isn't there more to life than undergoing surgery in order to have the same boring face that everybody else wants to have?
?— Dr Elisabeth McKenna, Psychologist
Yes, it's fake (假的)! That's what I told my friends when they started asking me about my nose job. I'd always been sensitive about my nose, but it took me a long time before I decided to go for cosmetic surgery. I took advice from several doctors and after careful consultation I finally decided to have it done. I had been saving money from my part-time job and my parents helped me out with the rest. It was quite expensive but I don't regret a penny of it. In fact I wish I'd had it done a few years ago. I'm sure I wouldn't have been teased so much at school.
?— Debbie Caron, Student
It makes me really angry to think of the millions of people who spend a fortune on cosmetic surgery. Surgery should be carried out for medical purposes, not vanity (虚荣心). I would rather all the money spent on cosmetic surgery was available to treat people around the world who are in need but can't get proper medical treatment. Furthermore, there are thousands of under-qualified surgeons out there who only care about getting as rich as possible as quickly as possible. They don't care about the psychological and physical damage they do. The whole industry makes me sick. We should do something to ban it.www.21-cn-jy.com
?— Danny Glass, Student
29. What can we learn from Dr Elisabeth McKenna?
A. Don't be fooled by “perfection”.
B. Cosmetic surgery often goes wrong.
C. The beauty industry needs improving.
D. It's necessary to set new standards of beauty.
30. What did Debbie Caron's cosmetic surgery bring to her?
A. More friends.?????????????????
B. More worries.
C. More self-confidence.
D. More job opportunities.
31. How does Danny Glass feel about those who have cosmetic surgery?
A. They should be ashamed.
B. They can have a new start.
C. They hurt themselves badly.
D. They should be treated as patients.
32. What would be the best title for the text?
A. A new fashion — cosmetic surgery
B. Hard talk — cosmetic surgery
C. The future of cosmetic surgery
D. The mystery of cosmetic surgery

It can be a hard life for much-loved stuffed animals that have broken arms or legs, but Amalia Kenny, age 9, has come to their rescue. She started a toy repair business last summer after learning to sew (缝制).21*cnjy*com
Amalia's business began with a big stuffed platypus (鸭嘴兽) that her mother got 11?years ago. The platypus had been carried around so much that his arm had fallen off. Amalia sewed it back on. That made Amalia decide to repair other worn-out stuffed animals around the house.
After fixing the stuffed animals at home, Amalia decided to offer her toy repair services to other families. Her mother sent a message last August to the email group in their?Washington?neighborhood. It announced that Amalia, then age 8, was available to repair toys with open seams (缝), ripped-off arms and legs, and other injuries. The notice included a price list, ranging from $3 to repair a small rip (裂口) in a seam to $7 to $10 for reattaching a leg, arm or ear.
“The next day I had someone” with a toy to fix, Amalia says.
Peter Quigley, also 8 at the time, was worried about Blue Bear, the huge stuffed bear he sleeps with every night. “I was nervous” because there were so many holes, Peter said. “My parents said they would fix him,” but they were so busy that they didn't get around to it. “Two months later, they said they had found someone else to fix him.” That someone was Amalia.
“She found a lot of extra holes,” says Peter, and she fixed them all. The bear repair showed “great workmanship,” says Peter's mother, Rebecca.
Grown-ups have asked Amalia for help, too. Amalia is saving the money she makes on toy repairs to donate to charity.
33. What can we infer about Amalia's repairing platypus?
A. It cost her about $7.
B. It must have been successful.
C. It attracted public attention.
D. It was completed 11 years ago.

D. From an email message.
35. Which of the following can best describe Amalia Kenny?
A. Wealthy.?????????????????

When people today talk about a tiny house, they probably mean the trendy living space that's about the size of a shed (棚). But you would have to be five inches tall to live in the original tiny houses. Dollhouses, which have been around for several centuries, don't offer shelter to real people, but they provide a vivid experience of life in times and places both real and imaginary.
The?National?Building?Museum?in?Washington,?D.C., lets visitors time travel in this tiny world through “Small Stories: At Home in a Dollhouse,” an exhibit that opened Saturday. Visitors can see twelve dollhouses from the?Victoriaand?Albert?Museum?in?London,?England, which contain amazing tiny furnishings. But those people who put together the exhibit also wanted visitors to know the characters inside.
“It's 300 years of British homes told through their inhabitants (居民),”?said Alice Sage, who is in charge of the London museum.
So as visitors look inside the Tate Baby House, a fancy townhouse from 1760, they can push a button to hear a young woman get a lecture from her mother on the proper way to run a home. In the Killer Cabinet house, a servant named Betsy complains about the problems of city life in the 1830s. “We've got the cat to keep the rats away,” she says.
That dollhouse was John Killer's gift to his wife and five daughters. The girls were allowed to play with the house, but they probably also learned a few lessons, Sage said.
“The kitchen of the house would have been the perfect way to teach the girls about the management of a home,” she said, noting the tiny dishes and pots.
Those who prefer a more modern look won't be disappointed. There are two rooms displaying a white dollhouse from 1935, an apartment house from the 1960s and a brightly colored 21st-century design.
The end of the exhibit shows how imaginative design sometimes works best in small spaces.21cnjy.com
The?Building?Museum?asked twenty-four artists, designers and architects from across the?United States?to each create a “dream room” from the past, present or future. Some of these unique small rooms were made using traditional furnishings, others from materials such as clay, insects, 3D-printing, and even Peeps marshmallow candies!

Recently our class has had a discussion about holiday plans.?We had different opinions.
Some students are in favour of staying at home. They think it's both convenient and comfortable. It allows them to have a good rest and spend more time with their families. Besides, they can save money for other purposes.
However, others think differently. They prefer to travel, since they can enjoy beautiful scenery and at the same time increase their knowledge and broaden their horizons.
In my opinion, it would be much better to stay at home, for I can do whatever I like, such as reading books, watching TV, and helping my parents with the housework.
