A
In the future your automobile will run on water instead of gas! You will be able to buy a supercomputer that fits in your pocket! You might even drive a flying car!
For each prediction that has come true today, several others have missed by a mile. Many of these predictions didn't consider how people would want to use the technology,or whether people really needed it in their lives or not. Let's look at some predictions from the not-too-distant past.
Robot Helpers
Where's the robot in my kitchen? Nowhere,of course. And he's probably not coming anytime soon. Robots do exist today, but mostly in factories and other manufacturing environments.
Back in the 1950s, however, people said that by now personal robots would be in most people's homes.
So why hasn't it happened? Probably because robots are still too expensive and clumsy. And maybe the idea of robots cooking our dinners and washing our clothes is just too weird. At home we seem to be doing fine without them.
Telephones of Tomorrow
In 1964 an American company introduced the video telephone. They said by the year 2000 most people would have a video phone in their homes. But of course the idea hasn't caught on yet.
Why? The technology worked fine, but it over-looked something obvious:people's desire for privacy. Would you want to have a video phone conversation with someone after you just step out of the shower? Probably not—it could be embarrassing! Just because a technology available doesn't always mean people will want to use it.
And finally, how about that crazy prediction of the flying car? It's not so crazy any more! But a flying car remains one of the most fascinating technology ideas to capture our imagination. Keep watching the news, or perhaps the sky outside your window, to see what the future will bring.
1.The whole passage is mainly about ________.
A. predictions that have come true
B. predictions that haven't come true
C. why predictions don't come true easily
D. what technology will bring about
2.The author of this passage won't believe that ______.
A. predictions needn't consider people's practical use of technology
B. the future isn't always easy to guess
C. not all past predictions have come true
D. many of the high-tech things our parents thought we'd be using by now simply never appeared
Many of these predictions didn't consider how people would want to use the technology,or whether people really needed it in their lives or not.
3.The underlined word “weird” in Para. 5 probably means ________.
A. wonderful B. stupid
C. practical D. strange
4.What does the author think of the flying car?
A. It is too difficult to imagine.
B. It is too crazy an idea.
C. It is likely to be made.
D. It is often reported in the news.
It's not so crazy any more!

(原创)Thirty-two of the world's best football teams competed for the golden World Cup trophy—but the planet's most populous(人口众多的) nation is not among them.
Team China failed to qualify for the “beautiful game's” showpiece event in Brazil. In fact China's World Cup dream turned into a nightmare as early as 2011 ,when it was removed in a regional qualifying round. China reached the finals only once back in 2002. But their debut (首秀) turned out to be an embarrassing result: they were knocked out after the group stage without scoring a single goal.
Still, these setbacks did not get rid of the football fever here.
Chinese football fans enjoyed the action in Brazil despite matches taking place after midnight,Beijing time.
By all means, local fans found ways to stay up late for the games. Some took paid leave, and others found excuses to stay home, such as getting doctors to sign sick-leave certificates. A man asked to take the day off to attend a teacher-parent conference.
Some managers said workplace productivity dropped during the World Cup. However, enthusiasm for the game brought commercial benefit. The World Cup advertising revenue (收入) for Leshi, one of China's largest video websites was estimated to reach RMB100 million yuan ($16 million), said its top executive Qiang Wei.
This summer alone CCTV, the state television network, could get in as much as RMB1.5 billion yuan ($ 240 million) in advertising revenue— 50% more than their earnings from the 2010 World Cup.
During the month-long competition held in Brazil, Chinese sports fans gathered for viewing parties in their living rooms, in factories and school dormitories, and in restaurants and bars, many of which opened late for the fans to watch matches live on television.
5.How many times have China been qualified for the World Cup?
A. Once. B. Twice.
C. Three times. D. Zero.
China reached the finals only once back in 2002. 故选A。
6.According to Paragraph 5, we can infer Chinese football fans ________.
A. make up all kinds of ways to improve China's football
B. make up all kinds of ways to stay up to watch the World Cup
C. have no choice but to improve China's football
D. have no choice but to stay up to watch the World Cup
7. Why did workplace productivity drop during the World Cup?
A. Because many people didn't concentrate on their work.
B. Because the management was not perfect.
C. Because some Chinese football fans were on strike.
D. Because the financial crisis continued.
故选A。
8.What made Leshi and CCTV bring in a lot in the World Cup?
A. The fund from the government.
B. The sale of tickets.
C. The advertisements.
D. The investment from football fans.
9.What's the main idea of the passage?
A. Team China failed to take part in the 2014 World Cup.
B. All kinds of Chinese football fans.
C. The 2014 World Cup held in Brazil.
D. The football fever of Chinese football fans.

结合句意分析句子结构可知空格后的句子“that she had never...been punished ________ a driving offence.”
,punish sb.for sth.
keep a record保持纪录。
根据下文的without stopping可知她pass a red light(闯红灯),如用go,则要用go by。
此处缺少表语形容词,因为主语为it,相当于it is certain that句式,故用certain,不用sure,able,因为sure,able常以人作主语;like一般不用于这一句式。
此处在考查固定句式:the reason why...is that...……
it's your turn表示轮到你了。
What will the house of the future look like? Could it have gardens on its walls, or a pool with fish for dinner? Architects believe that they are all possibilities. The only thing for sure is that the houses will be as green as possible.
The tree house
Many architects in the world would like to build a “tree house”. Like a leaf, the surface of the house collects sunlight during the day. The energy can be used to heat water, produce electricity, and even create fresh air for the home. The “root” of the house is deep under the ground so that it can control the home's temperature.
The Lizard(蜥蜴) house
Like a lizard, changing color with the weather is the most important design of a lizard house. When it's in the bright sun, the cover of the house will turn dark to protect it from strong heat. During dark days, it turns white and takes in as much light and heat as possible to produce energy.
Meals at home
This design is perhaps as much about the future of food production as architecture It has gardens on the outside wall of the house. People can plant tomatoes, carrots and green tea on them. So every day in the morning, you just need to walk outside and collect your meals.
Learning from the past
Looking to the future isn't the only way to be green. Sometimes, ancient techniques (古老的技术) can also help cut down energy use. For example, a chimney (烟囱) can be a useful air conditioner because it is easier for hot air to flow out of the chimney.

D. with gardens on its walls
3.The passage seems to tell us that meals at home in the future ________.
A. will be more delicious
B. need more cooks
C. cost as much as possible
D. will be greener
4.The last kind of the house is different from others because ________.
A. it looks the same as an old house
B. it makes less use of natural materials
C. it gets the idea from ancient techniques
D. it is easier for hot air to flow out of the house

Has been a dream for 30 years but now the world's first flying car is set to hit the roads this year.
Ever since the “Back to the Future” movies lit up our screens in the 1980s, designers have dreamt of cars that could take to the sky at the push of a button(按钮). And now pilots can order their own “roadable” plane for just £ 127,000.
The plane, which has fold-out wings that span 17.5 feet, can be up to 115 mph. Back on the land, it can also travel at “highway speeds” in car mode(模式).
Fuelling(加燃料) the 19-foot-long plane couldn't be simpler—you just drive it into a petrol station and fill it up.
A spokeswoman said, “You can keep your ‘light-sport airplane’ in your garage. But because it needs a short runway to take to the air, you will have to drive to your local airport, fly up to 460 miles, land and drive directly to your destination(目的地). You will always be ready to drive or fly.”
The spokeswoman added,“Never let bad weather change your trip. You can simply divert(使转向) and continue on the ground until the weather clears.”
There's no risk to you—this is only the chance for you to be the first at your home field to unfold(展开) your wings and fly into the future.
1.According to the text, the “roadable” plane ________.
A. can fly in the sky at “highway speeds” in car mode
B. is a kind of car with fold-out wings
C. is a little difficult to fuel

2.We can infer that in the “Back to the Future” movies ________.
A. there are some skillful pilots
B. pilots have no cars to drive
C. pilots can't afford a “roadable” plane
D. cars can fly in the sky
3.What does the underlined word “it” in the 5th paragraph refer to?
A. A light-sport airplane.
B. Your garage.

A. call for people to buy the “roadable” plane
B. show people the use of the “roadable” plane

At first sight the planet Mars(火星) does not appear very welcoming to any kind of life. It has very little oxygen and water, the temperature at night is below 50 degrees and winds of 100 miles (161 kilometers) per hour cause severe dust storms. However, the surface of the planet seems to show that water flowed across it at some time in the past, and it is believed that there would be enough ice at the poles to cover the planet with water if it melted. Although there is no life on the Mars now, some scientists think there may have been some form of life a long time ago. At that time, the planet had active volcanoes(火山); the atmosphere was thicker and warmer; and there was water. In fact, in some ways the Mars may have been similar to the Earth, where life exists.
Some people believe that the Mars could support life in the future if the right conditions were produced. The first step would be to warm the planet using certain gases which trap the Sun's heat in the planet's atmosphere. With warmth, water and carbon dioxide, simple plants could begin to grow. These plants could slowly make the Mars fit to live on. It is judged that the whole process might take between 100,000 and 200,000 years. In the meantime, people could begin to live on the planet in a special closed environment. They would provide a lot of useful information about conditions on the Mars and the problems connected with living there.

I was taking a train to London's Victoria Station. I had noticed that the carriage was noise and filled with people.
Before long, a train inspector comes to check out tickets. A passenger realized he couldn't find his ticket but became quite upset. Then everyone in the carriage began searching the ticket, which was eventually found under a seat several rows from his owner. The person who found a ticket smiled with pleasure at his success.
No one in the carriage had previous spoken to or even noticed the ticket-owner before. Yet, they had so quickly offered the strangers their help. If we could show concern to others on need, the world would be a better place to live in.
