Pre-task preparations
Activity 1
Ask the students to listen to the dialogue on Student’s Book page 6 and look at the wall picture. Elicit the pattern Give me ...
Activity 2
Elicit the pattern Give me ... in a real situation.
e.g.,
T: I need a rubber. Peter, give me a rubber, please.
S1: (Passes the rubber to you)
T: Thank you.
Activity 3
Have the students listen to the recording for Student’s Book page 8. Elicit the general meaning of the story by asking the students questions.
e.g., T: Is it in the morning or afternoon?/What does Alice want, a ruler or a rubber?
While-task procedures
Activity 1
Ask the students to listen to the recording of “Let’s talk” and repeat after it. Have them practise the dialogue with you like the following.
e.g.,
T: Give me ..., please.
Ss: Here you are.
T: Thank you.
Activity 2
Invite the students to play the roles in “Let’s act”. The boys act as Kitty and the girls act as Alice.
e.g.,
Bs: Good afternoon, Alice.
Gs: Good afternoon, Kitty.
Gs: Give me a rubber, please.
Bs: Here you are.
Gs: ...
Activity 3
Ask the students to offer you an object according to your instructions.
e.g.,
T: Give me a ruler, please.
S: (Passes a ruler to you) Here you are.
T: Thank you.
Activity 4
Have the students do “Look, listen and say” on Workbook page 8.
Activity 5
Invite the students to play a passing game. Have the students in the first row turn around and give instructions to the students in the second row. The students in the second row should offer them the appropriate objects.
e.g.,
S1: Give me a ruler, please.
S2: (Passes a ruler to S1) Here you are.
S1: Thank you.
Post-task activities
Activity 1
Ask the students to make some short dialogues in pairs and then act them out.
e.g.,
S1: Give me a ..., please.
S2: Here you are.
S1: Thank you.
Activity 2
Ask the students to do “Look, listen and act” on Workbook page 6. Then have them act it out.
Activity 3
Ask the students to do “Listen and match” on Workbook page 7.
Activity 4
Have the students do Task “Ask for something” on Workbook page 9 in pairs. They can substitute the words of stationery.
e.g.,
S1: Good morning.

Pre-task preparations
Activity 1
Show the students a pencil case. Then take out a ruler, a rubber and a pencil from the pencil case to elicit the new words.
e.g., T: Look, what’s in the pencil case? A ruler, a pencil ...
Activity 2
Ask the students, “What can you see in the classroom?” Hold up some objects that the students have, such as a ruler or a rubber.
e.g., T: What can you see? (Holds up a ruler) I can see a ruler.
While-task procedures
Activity 1
Ask the students to repeat the new words after you.
Activity 2
Teach the rhyme on Student’s Book page 9.
Activity 3
Say aloud the names of the objects introduced in Unit 2. Have the students hold up the corresponding objects and repeat the words they have heard. Practise until they can respond quickly. Then have them practise in groups.
e.g.,
T: A book!
Ss: (Hold up a book) A book!
Activity 4
Engage the students in the following rhythmic chant. Hold up different objects to cue the students to respond.
e.g.,
T: What can you see? What can you see?
Ss: A book, a pencil, I can see.
A book, a pencil, I can see.
Post-task activities
Activity 1
Ask the students to play a guessing game. Hide an object behind you and have the students guess what it is.
e.g.,
T: What’s this?
S: A book!
T: Yes. A book.
Activity 2
Have the students practise the rhyme on Student’s Book page 9, substituting book, pencil, ... with other words.
Activity 3
Have the students do “Listen and tick” on Workbook page 6.
