The greatest recent social changes have been in the lives of women. During the twentieth century there has been a remarkable shortening of the proportion (比率,比例) of a woman’s life spent in caring for children. A woman marrying at the end of the nineteenth century would probably have been in her middle twenties, and would be likely to have seven or eight children. By the time the youngest was fifteen, the mother would have been in her early fifties and would expect to live a further twenty years, during which custom, opportunity and health made it unusual for her to get paid work. Today woman marry younger and have fewer children. Usually a woman’s youngest child will be fifteen when she is forty-five and can be expected to live another thirty-five years and is likely to take paid work until retirement at sixty. Even while she has the care of children, her work is lightened by household appliances (家用电器)and convenience foods.
This important change in women’s life-pattern has only recently begun to have its full effect on women’s economic position. Even a few years ago most girls left school at the first opportunity, and most of them took a full-time job. However, when they married, they usually left work at once and never returned to it. Today the school-leaving age is sixteen, but many girls stay at school after that age, and though women tend to marry younger, more married women stay at work at least until shortly before their first child is born. Very many more afterwards return to full or part-time work. Such changes have led to new relationship in marriage, with the husband accepting a greater share of the duties and satisfactions of family life, and with both husband and wife sharing more equally in providing the money, and running the home, according to their abilities and interests of each of them.

C.women’s improved economic position

A good modern newspaper is an extraordinary piece of reading. It is remarkable first for what it contains: the range of news from local crime to international politics, from sport to business to fashion to science, and the range of comment and special features (特写) as well, from editorial page to feature articles and interviews to criticism of books, art, theatre and music. A newspaper is even more remarkable for the way one reads it: never completely, never straight through, but always by jumping from here to there, in and out glancing at one piece, reading another article all the way through , reading just a few paragraphs of the next. A good modern newspaper offers a variety to attract many different readers, but for more than any one reader is interested in. What brings this variety together in one place is its topicality (时事性), its immediate relation to what is happening in your world and your locality now . But immediately can the speed of production that goes with it mean also that much of what appears in a newspaper has no more than transient(短暂的)value. For all these reasons, reading newspapers efficiently which means getting what you want from them without missing things you need but without wasting time, demands skill and self-awareness as you modify and apply the techniques of reading.

Many people will remember the flight of the space shuttle (航天飞机)Challenger , in June, 1993. The achievement of Sally Ride, America’s first woman astronaut to fly into space, made this flight especially memorable. Students from two high schools in Camden, New Jersey, however, are likely to remember Norma rather than Sally whenever they think about the flight.
Norma didn’t travel alone. She brought about 100 companions along with her. Norma was an ant, a queen ant who, with her subjects, made up the first ant colony (群体) to travel into space. The ants were part of a science experiment designed by the students to test the effects of weightlessness on insects.
The equipment designed by the students for their colony functioned perfectly throughout the long space trip. The young scientists and their teachers were very sad to find that their insect astronauts had all died at some point before the container was returned to the school and opened. The problem did not occur in space, but on the ground after Challenger had landed. The container remained in the desert for nearly a week before the ant colony was removed. The hot, dry desert air dried out the colony’s container and the ants died from lack of moisture (水分).
The project was termed a success because it did provide useful information. Students will continue their efforts to find out exactly what went wrong. They will try to prevent the same difficulties from recurring (再发生) on future missions . They don’t want to be discouraged either by the death of the ants or by the $10,000 shuttle fare they will have to pay to send the next colony of ants into space.

One of the qualities that most people admire in others is the willingness to admit one’s mistakes. It is extremely hard sometimes to say a simple thing like “I was wrong about that, and it is even harder to say,” I was wrong, and you were right about that.”
I had an experience recently with someone admitting to me that he had made a mistake fifteen years ago. He told me he had been the manager of a certain store in the neighbourhood where I grew up, and he asked me if I remembered the egg cartons (in many countries, eggs are sold by the dozen and are put in cartons.) Then he related an incident and I began to remember unclearly the incident he was describing.
I was about eight years old at that time. I went into the store with my mother to do some shopping. On that particular day, I must have found my way to the food department where the incident took place.
There must have been a special sale on eggs that day because there were lots of eggs in dozen and half-dozen cartons. The cartons were put there or four feet high. I must have stopped in front of the poles of egg cartons. Just then a woman came by pushing her shopping cart and knocked off the cartons. For some reason, I decided it was up to me to put the eggs back together, so I went to work.
The manager heard the noise and came rushing over to see what had happened .When he appeared, I was on my knees looking at some of the cartons to see if any of the eggs broken, but to him it looked as though I was the one who just did it .He severely reprimanded me and wanted me to pay for any broken eggs. I tried to explain, but it was no good. Even though I quickly forgot all about the incident, it is plain that the manager did not.
69.According to the passage, many people will have a good opinion of those who .
A.often make mistakes but correct them in no time
B.have never made any mistakes
C.admit their mistakes
D.forget other people’s mistakes easily.
70.Which is the correct order of the following events?
a. I forgot all about the incident b. I went into the store.
c. a woman knocked off the egg cartons d. I stood in front of the egg cartons
e. the manager reminded me of the incident
f. the manager didn’t believe my explanation
g. I picked up the unbroken egg.

Many students want to learn English well, but they seem not to have proper ways to do this. Here are a few tips we’ve put together to help you learn English well.
Speak, speak speak!
Practice speaking as often as you can --- even speaking to yourself is good practice.
Try recording yourself whenever you can. Compare your pronunciation with the master version, see how you can do better and have another go. If you can do this several times, you will find that each version is better than the last.
Why not learn with someone else?
It helps if you can learn with someone else. If you can persuade a friend or family members to study with you, it will make you keep working. Agree times to meet and set goals for the week, and test each other regularly.
Don’t get stuck by a word you don’t know.
Practise improvising ways of getting your meaning across when speaking spontaneously(本能的),even if you don’t know the exact words or phrases. Think of things you might want to say whenever you have spare time. A basic example is the use of tenses, If you ______________ but want to talk about yesterday, use the verb in the present tense and use the word for “yesterday” . Use facial expression, hand movements, anything to get your meaning across.
Language learning is also about intuition(直觉)
Guesswork is an important strategy(策略) in learning a new language. When listening to recorded material, you aren’t expected to understand something new each time. Learn to make maximum use of all the clues you can pick up. For example, what do the speakers sound like? Happy? Angry? Calm? etc.
Build up your vocabulary.
A wide vocabulary is the key to successful language learning but don’t try to learn too much at once. It’s best to study frequently, for short periods of time. Take a maximum of six or seven items of vocabulary and learn them. Put them into sentences to fix them in your mind, then come back to then later. Much of the vocabulary in the course id presented by topic.
And above all, have fun.
What’s the best title of the passage? (Please answer within 10 seconds.)
Which sentence in the passage can be replaced by the following one?
Whenever it is possible, try making a record of yourself when speaking.
Please fill in the blanks in the fourth paragraph with proper words or phrases to complete the sentence. (Please answer within 10 words.)
How to listen to recorded material? (Please answer within 30 words.)
Translate the underlined sentence in the last paragraph into Chinese.
书面表达(满分30分)请根据下面的内容提示,写一篇120-150字左右的短文。

In our life love always makes us happy, so everyone wants to be loved.
Some people often hope for love but at the same time they doubt the existence of true love. They think it is only the profits that connect people with each other. As a conquence, they gradually lose the ability to love and always feel sad for not being loved in their life. However, some other people are always happy for the great love from people around them, and in return, they give their family, their friends their true love. So they enjoy their happy life everyday.
Love is everywhere. Only when you have love in your heart, can you find true love.
