Lisa Rienermann, 30, spent half a year with her head in the clouds—taking photos of every letter of the alphabet(字母表)in the spaces between tall buildings.
During the six months, she walked in the long and narrow streets of Barcelona, looking up and trying to find every letter of the alphabet.
But her idea only began after a chance taking the photo of the letter “q” in space –That time she found it when she glanced to the sky in her favourite bar in the city. The letter had been made up by the space of a square and the narrow street. She quickly took it in her camera. She thought maybe she could find the other letters of the alphabet, so she tried.
It took her six months from “q” to all the other letters. Her activities have been put into a book called Type the Sky.
She said, “Barcelona is beautiful anyway—especially the old part of the town with the narrow streets. Every time you look up you can only see a small part of the sky and nothing else because there are houses each side.”

Hundreds of years ago, life was harder than it is today. People didn’t have modern machines .There was no modern medicine, either.
Life today has brought new problems. One of the biggest is pollution. Water pollution has made our rivers and lakes dirty. It kills our fish and pollutes our drinking water. Noise pollution makes us talk louder and become angry more easily. Air pollution is the most serious kind of pollution to all living things in the world.
Cars, plane and factories all pollute our air every day. Sometimes the polluted air is so sick that it is like a quilt(被状物)over a city. This kind of quilt is called smog.
Many countries are making rules to fight pollution. Factories must clean their water before it is thrown away, and they mustn’t let dirty smoke go into the air.
We need to do many other things. We can put waste things in the dustbin and do not throw them on the ground. We can go to work by bus with our friends in the same car. If there are fewer people driving, there will be less pollution.
Rules are not enough. Every person must help to fight pollution.

Many people hate nuisance (讨厌的人或事物) telephone calls. These are the calls we get from business companies. They are always trying to sell us something that we usually do not want. Nuisance telephone calls are also called “cold calls” because we have never expected to talk with them.
Nuisance calls have become a serious problem around the world. In Britain, 72% of people said they would get at least such a call in a week. One company in Britain made 40 million “cold calls” in just three months. These calls annoy (使……烦恼) people so much.
The British government is thinking about taking action to stop these calls. The companies are asked to make their telephone numbers public. For most nuisance calls, we cannot know who is calling us, but that could change. At the same time, the British government will fine (处……以罚款) companies that make nuisance calls. Cold callers would get a fine of up to $720,000 for making nuisance calls.www.21-cn-jy.com
Can these actions solve the nuisance call problem completely? Perhaps the answer is not. “There is no simple solution (解决办法) to the problem of nuisance calls,” said Lucy Neville-Rolfe, minister for data protection. “But making companies show their telephone numbers will help people a lot.”

To look like the popular stars, young people in the UK like the skin with a dark tan(棕褐色). So a “see-through” bathing suit that will eliminate(消除) tan lines has been developed buy British designers. The Tan Through rang is transparent(透明的) when it is held up to the light.
This kind of bathing suit has thousands of very small holes and allows 80% of sunlight to penetrate(透过) through to the skin. However, it is designed with animal prints and cartoon pictures which can confuse the eye so people can only see the bathing suit.
A bathing suit bought direct from the company’s website costs $34.30 while all other items such as glasses, are $17.43.
However health researchers say this kind of bathing suit can cause deadly skin cancer. They say it is a dangerous idea to get a dark tan. A survey said that five people were found skin cancer a day. It is really a skin killer.
“ Although this may sound like an attractive idea to many people looking to get a tan this summer, the fact that it lets through 80% of the sunlight should be the worrying problem,” said a spokesman for the British Skin Foundation. He also said that it would mean people can still damage their skin from UV light because the bathing suit doesn’t offer any type of cover to the skin.
The bathing suit company itself also warns the customers to be careful with the suit because it does let the light straight through.

( ) 57.Why does the “ see-through” bathing suit cause the skin cancer?
A. Because people can see the skin directly.
B. Because the small holes allow 80% of the sunlight straight through.
C. Because it is designed with animal pictures and cartoons.
D. Because people can only see the prints on the bathing suit.
( ) 58. What’s the best title of this passage?
