When you wave to a friend, you are using body language. When you smile at someone you mean to be friendly. When you put one finger in front of your mouth, you mean “be quiet.” Yet (然而), people in different countries may use different body languages.
An Englishman was in Italy. He could speak little Italian. One day while he was walking in the street, he felt hungry and went into a restaurant. When the waiter came, the Englishman opened his mouth, put his fingers into it and took them out again and moved his lips(嘴唇). In this way, he meant to say, “ Bring me something to eat.” But the waiter brought him a lot of things to drink, first tea, then coffee then milk, but no food. The Englishman was sorry that he was not able to tell the waiter he was hungry. 21教育名师原创作品
He was ready to leave the restaurant when another man came in. The man put his hands on his stomach (肚子), and this body language was good enough for the waiter. In a few minutes, the waiter brought him a large plate of bread and meat.

Americans are very direct(直接的) people. When they want something they say “yes” and when they don’t they say “no”. If they want something different from what is given, they ask for it. Here’s an example. I arrive at someone’s house and he gives me wine, I don’t want wine. Maybe I don’t like it or maybe I just don’t want it. I will say “No, thanks. ” If everyone around me is drinking something, I would ask for something else, “No, thanks. But I’ll take a bit of tea if you have some.” If I really want wine, I just say, 2·1·c·n·j·y

七. 任务阅读
Americans like to look at the other person in the eyes when they are talking. If you don’t do so, it means you are unhappy, or are not interested.
For Americans, thumbs (大拇指) up means yes, very good or well done; thumbs down means the opposite. To call a waiter, people put one hand above the head. It is all right to point at things but not at people with the hand and index finger. Americans shake their index finger at children when they scold them and touch them on the heads when they admire them. 2-1-c-n-j-y
