第三部分:阅读理解(共20小题;每小题2分,满分40分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项A、B、C和D中,选出最佳选项,并标在答题卷的相应位置。
A
Sixty-year-old
Hernando
Guanlao
has
set
up
an
informal
library
to
encourage
local
people
to
share
his
joy
of
reading.
To
operate
the
library,
he
gave
up
his
job,
living
entirely
on
his
savings.
Readers
can
take
as
many
books
as
they
want,
for
as
long
as
they
want.
It's
a
policy
you
might
assume
would
end
very
quickly—with
Guanlao
having
no
books
at
all.
But
in
fact,
in
the
12
years
he's
been
running
his
library—he's
found
that
his
collection
has
grown
rather
than
reduced.
Guanlao
started
his
library
shortly
after
the
death
of
his
parents.
He
kept
thinking
back
to
the
happy
days
when
his
parents
still
lived
with
him.
The
memories
drove
him
to
do
something.
Then
he
hit
upon
the
idea
of
promoting
the
reading
habit
he
picked
up
from
his
parents.
He
put
the
books—a
collection
of
fewer
than
100—outside
the
door
of
his
house
to
see
if
anyone
wanted
to
borrow
them.
They
did,
and
they
brought
the
books
back
with
others
to
add
to
the
collection
and
the
library
was
born.
Now
there
are
2,000
or
3,000
on
the
shelves
and
in
the
boxes
outside
his
front
door.
The
library
is
not
advertised,
but
every
day,
a
steady
stream
of
people
find
their
way
there.
There
are
history
books,
textbooks
for
children,
as
well
as
some
fashion
magazines
available.
Guanlao
does
not
wait
for
people
faraway
to
find
him—he
goes
to
them,
on
his
"book
bike",
which
has
a
large
basket
piled
high
with
books.
He's
also
started
to
set
his
sights
outside
Manila.
His
latest
plan
is
to
help
a
friend
who
wants
to
start
up
a
library
in
the
far
south
of
the
country.
"A
book
should
be
used
and
reused.
It
has
life,
it
has
a
message."
Guanlao
said.
"As
a
book
caretaker,
you
become
a
full
man."
56.
Which
of
the
following
is
TRUE
of
Guanlao
A.
He
loves
reading.
B.
He
lives
a
wealthy
life.
C.
He
built
a
library
in
2010.
D.
He
goes
to
his
library
after
work.
57.
Why
did
Guanlao
decide
to
start
a
library
A.
He
did
it
in
honour
of
his
parents.
B.
He
wanted
to
realize
his
parents’
dream.
C.
He
found
fewer
and
fewer
people
like
reading.
D.
He
intended
to
help
people
who
can’t
afford
to
buy
books.
58.
According
to
the
text,
books
in
Guanlao’s
library
_______.
A.
totalled
about
1,000
at
the
beginning
B.
are
mostly
from
readers’
donations
C.
are
targeted
at
adults
D.
can’t
be
taken
away
59.
It

inferred
from
the
text
that
_______.
A.
many
people
travel
a
lot
to
go
to
Guanlao’s
library
B.
there
are
many
such
libraries
across
the
country
C.
Guanlao
thinks
the
job
is
well
worth
doing
D.
Guanlao
advertises
his
library.

Students
at
New
Market
Elementary
School
had
a
fitter
lifestyle
last
week.
About
50
students
participated
in
a
30-minute
workout
after
school
on
Friday
in
the
school’s
gym.
This
was
a
Fit
Fridays
program
introduced
at
the
school
by
Families
Plus,
a
nonprofit
group
that
provides
programs
to
enrich
the
lives
of
families
and
children
in
Frederick
County.
The
free
program
aims
to
encourage
students
from
kindergarten
through
fifth
grade
to
be
physically
active
by
having
them
participate
in
various
age-appropriate
activities
designed
to
promote
a
love
of
exercise,
according
to
Kim
Ragan,
head
of
the
program.
The
program,
which
started
at
the
school
on
Nov.
9,
2013,
has
since
become
a
hit,
Ragan
said.
Emily
Liston,
37,
said
the
program
allows
students
to
focus
on
fitness
as
a
priority
in
their
lives.
“There
are
so
many
things
to
stop
them
from
being
active,”
she
said.
“So
anything
to
keep
them
moving
is
good,
especially
in
the
winter
months.”
Jennifer
Mitchell,
40,
whose
daughter
Alexandra,
7,
participated
in
the
Fit
Fridays
program,
said
that
learning
the
importance
of
being
active
isn’t
the
only
thing
students
are
learning
from
the
new
program.
“It’s
a
great
opportunity
for
them
to
get
some
exercise
and
also
to
learn
to
get
along
and
socialize,
to
learn
teamwork,”
she
said.
“In
school
they
have
to
do
activities
like
this
but
here
they
want
to
do
it.”
Riley
Glynn,
9,
a
fourth
grader
at
the
school,
said
his
favorite
part
of
the
program
is
getting
to
spend
more
time
with
his
friends.
“It’s
fun
to
play
with
people,”
Riley
said.
“It’s
like
physical
education
after
school
but
it
really
helps
you.”
“You
learn
how
to
make
yourself
stronger,”
said
Megan
Hummel,
7,
a
first
grader.
Ragan
said
she
plans
to
expand
the
program
to
include
other
schools
in
the
county,
but
she
has
been
having
trouble

D
I’ve
never
had
a
good
memory.
The
only
way
I’ve
found
to
push
against
forgetting
is
to
leave
myself
a
paper
record. Since
grade
school,
I’ve
saved
things
many
people
might
have
given
up
long
ago:
tickets
for
every
movie
I’ve
seen
and
playbills
for
every
play;
birthday,
graduation,
and
even
Halloween
cards
from
everyone
who
ever
sent
them
to
me,
even
if
I
didn’t
like
them
much.
This
tendency
has
served
me
well,
which
is
why
each
time
I
have
to
choose
between
throwing
away
an
old
airline
ticket
or
keeping
it
in
my
drawer. If
I
drop
that
ticket
into
the
trash,
I’d
feel
like
I’m
accelerating
the
forgetting
process
by
not
honoring
the
event.
The
idea
of
having
lots
of
memories
sitting
on
a
shelf
is
certainly
attractive. How
else
can
I
awaken
my
mind—especially
to
the
happier
times
in
my
life
A
few
years
ago,
while
visiting
my
mother,
I
cleared
out
my
childhood
bedroom. Among
lots
of
old
clothes,
I
discovered
boxes
full
of
journals,
letters,
bad
art
projects,
even
a
photo
taken
of
me
in
the
first
grade.
It
felt
like
I
was
visiting
myself
at
ages
seven,
and
eleven,
and
fourteen,
and
eighteen.
Sometimes
being
the
steward(管家)of
all
these
scraps
does
weigh
me
down. Before
my
last
move,
I
was
advised
not
to
take
anything. Even
though
I
did
abandon
some
things,
I
realized
I
wasn’t
leaving
the
life
I
knew
behind. Instead,
I
was
finding
a
new
way
to
take
it
with
me.
I’m
a
saver,
not
an
archivist(档案管理员).
I
haven’t
preserved
myself;
I
simply
help
myself
remember,
and
finally
to
grow. Knowing
who
I
was
enables
me
to
know
who
I
am—someone
who
has
loved
many
people,
and
has
been
loved
in
return. I
believe
this
is
worth
remembering.
I
believe
that
remembering
is
the
best
way
to
move
forward.

E
Well,
I’m
about
4
weeks
into
winter
training
and
I’m
still
alive
and
well.
To
be
honest,
I’m
better
than
alive;
I’m
happier
than
a
pig
rolling
around.
So
far
everything
about
this
winter
has
been
positive.
This
year
we
have
changed
a
lot
about
my
training
in
order
to
improve
next
year.
It’s
taken
a
while
to
sink
into
my
mind
but
I’ve
finally
accepted
that
I
can’t
do
everything
on
my
own.
For
about
two
years
I’d
been
doing
my
own
strength
and
still
working
as
hard
as
I
always
do
but
just
not
making
progress.
I
am
now
working
one
to
one
with
Gary
Nash
and
Tom
Clay
at
the
Unit
Gym
in
Newcastle,
which
is
under
a
railway
bridge.
I’m
feeling
the
benefits
already,
basically
Gary
makes
me
do
things
that
I
wouldn’t
make
myself
do.
There’s
a
point
where
you
need
that
little
push
to
go
past,
and
he
is
certainly
pushing
me.
Every
session
is
a
challenge
and
a
war.
Very
grateful
to
Gary
for
his
help
and
I’m
sure
it’s
going
to
have
an
impact
on
performances
next
year.
I’ve
been
touched
by
the
number
of
people
who
have
told
me
they
got
tickets
to
watch
me
compete
next
year.
It
gives
me
even
more
encouragement
to
be
the
best
prepared
I
can
be.
I’ve
been
very
frustrated
in
the
last
couple
of
years,
for
things
haven’t
always
gone
as
I’d
liked
but
now
this
is
a
fresh
start.
When
I
started
at
the
Paralympics(残奥会),
you
usually
had
to
drag
people
into
the
stadium
to
watch
it.
Now
people
are
paying
good
money
to
get
tickets
and
some
sports
are
selling
out,
it’s
great.
I
want
to
put
on
the
best
show
possible
for
everyone
coming
to
watch.
I
know
in
my
mind
I
am
defending
champion
lost
in
Beijing.
What
happened
there
was
wrong
but
it’s
now
accepted,
and
I
go
into
London
looking
to
defend
my
title
and
undefeated
record
with
honor,
pride
and
bravery.

任务型阅读(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)
认真阅读下列短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入一个最恰当的单词。
注意:每个空格只填1个单词。请将答案写在答题纸相应题号的横线上。
Poor
sleep—as
anyone
who
suffers
from
it
knows—can
make
life
a
misery.
According
to
the
recently
published
Great
British
Sleep
Survey,
more
than
51%
of
us
now
struggle
to
get
a
good
night's
sleep,
with
women
three
times
more
likely
to
be
affected
than
men.
Evidence
collected
from
20,000-plus
adults
between
March
2010
and
this
June
shows
that
93%
of
insomniacs(失眠患者)report
low
energy
levels.
Some
77%
find
it
hard
to
concentrate,
64%
say
they
are
less
productive
at
work,
and
55%
report
relationship
difficulties.
Even
worse,
constant
poor
sleep
can
increase
the
risk
of
developing
conditions
including
diabetes(糖尿病),
depression,
high
blood
pressure.
In
Britain,
we
always
treat
poor
sleep
with
medication,
like
sleeping
pills.
However,
many
pills
have
undesirable
side-effects
and
the
survey's
findings
suggest
they
do
not
solve
long-term
sleep
problems:
42%
of
the
surveyed
people
have
continued
to
have
poor
sleep
for
more
than
ten
years.
So
how
can
we
do
something
about
poor
sleep
without
taking
pills
Most
sleep
experts
agree
that
the
following
do
make
a
difference.
A
dark
room
is
important
to
a
good
sleep.
Try
to
avoid
"blue
light"
before
bed.
Research
by
the
Lighting
Research
Centre
at
the
Rensselaer
Polytechnic
Institute
in
New
York
State
suggests
light
from
laptop
and
smart
phone
screens
tricks
us
into
thinking
it
is
daytime
and
keeps
us
alert.
Anything
that
stimulates(刺激)the
system—such
as
coffee,
alcohol,
chocolate,
tobacco,
a
heavy
meal
or
too
much
exercise—will
make
it
harder
to
get
to
sleep.
Indigestible
foods
are
obviously
best
avoided.
Aim
for
a
regular,
balanced
diet.
Twenty

every

will
make
a

to
your

but
avoid
it
just
before

Dear
Sir
or
Madam,
I
am
writing
this
letter
to
apply
for
a
position
in
the
exchange
programme.
Being
a
social
person,
I
enjoy
meeting
people
and
learning
about
a

culture.
I
am
proud
of
my
country
and
know
a

about
its

and
culture
and
I
would
love
to
tell
people
about
it.
Now
I
am
studying
at
a

here

so
I
am
used
to
living

I

Besides,
I

the

would
be
a

to
learn

oneself.
I
