Lesson 41 is the fifth lesson in Unit 7, Book 5.This unit focus on the subject Work for peace, Students cares about the subject because it is close to everyone. Lesson 41 mainly talks about Danny and Steven fight again, Jenny’s advice for them. Deal with their misunderstanding.

Step 1. Warm-up

When you get into a fight with a friend, which of you usually says sorry first?
Step 2. Presentation
Show the pictures of Jenny’s advice and ask students: Who are they? What happened?
Explain the new words.
Listen to the dialogue and answer the questions.
Is Danny free on Saturday afternoon?
Who else does Jenny invite?
Why does Jenny invite them?
Check the answers.
Explain the language points:
agree to do“应允,愿意”。
She agreed to study with him.
她答应和他一起学习。
agree with sb.?“同意某人的意见”。

I agree with your mind.

agree to “同意(计划、提议等)”。

agree on / about“商定;达成协议”。

agree后可接that引导的宾语从句,that有时可省略,意为“同意……;一致认为……”。
e.g. They agree (that) the movie is so funny.他们一致认为这部电影是非常有趣的。
either和neither均可用作代词或副词等。
(1) 用作代词
两者都可作句子的主语、宾语或定语等成分。either意为“两个中的任何一个”;neither意为“两个中没有一个”。这两个词作主语时,谓语动词一般需用单数形式。
Either of the plans works well.?
这两个计划中的任何一个效果者都很好。
Neither of the dictionaries is useless.?
这两本字典没有一本有用。

(2) 用作副词
either“也”,用于否定句句末。
e.g. Tom doesn’t like math and I don’t like it either.21*cnjy*com
汤姆不喜欢数学,我也不喜欢。
neither“也不”,用来接别人的话。
e. g. —I don’t like English.
—Neither do I.
—我不喜欢了英语。
—我也不喜欢。
(3) either可与or连用,构成并列连词either ... or ...,意为“或者……或者……”; neither可与nor连用,构成并列连词neither ... nor ...,意为“既不……也不……;……和……两个都不”。【来源:21cnj*y.co*m】
二者连接并列成分作主语时,谓语动词需与邻近的主语在人称和数上保持一致。

或者我的女儿或者是我的儿子下个月要去上海。

这两件裙子都不适合我。

elder是形容词,与the连用相当于名字。
the elder可用于区别两个同名的名人,意思是“老;大”
the elders的意思是“老年人;长者;年龄较大的人”。

我们都应该尊敬老人。
mean to do sth.“意欲(打算)做某事”;
mean doing sth.“意味着做某事”。

Read again and fill in the blanks with the correct forms of the phrases in the box on page 107.
