Step 2. Presentation
Explain the words according to the pictures.

Explain the language points:
when talking to others在句中作状语，这时-ing形式的逻辑主语通常是主句的主语。这种状语可以转化为状语从句。21*cnjy*com
e.g. When sleeping, I never hear a thing.
(= When I am sleeping, I never hear a thing.)
当我睡觉时，我什么都听不见。

有时-ing形式的逻辑主语不是主句的主语，而要根据上下文判断。
e.g. Whether studying or sleeping, the problem is always in his mind.
无论学习还是睡觉，那个问题总是萦绕在他的心中。（walking和sleeping的逻辑主语不是problem, 而是he。）

句中it作形式宾语，to make new friends 是实际宾语。实际宾语还可以是宾语从句。
e.g. I think it easy to learn English well.
我认为学好英语很容易。
He made it clear that he would leave soon.
他明确表示要很快离开。
make an / the effort to do / doing sth. “努力做某事”。
e.g. We will make an / the effort to get
in (或getting in) touch with you.
我们会努力跟你取得联系的。
用来引导时间状语从句的词和词组有the first time, the moment, the minute, the instant, the day, the year, every time, next time, immediately, directly, instantly等。
e.g. I’ll tell you about it the moment you come.
你一到我就告诉你。

I’m going to see him next time he comes to Beijing.

waste 的用法：
(1)作动词，意为“浪费”。
①waste sth.表示“浪费某物”。
e.g. Don’t waste food.
别浪费食物。
②waste sth. on sb. / sth.表示“在某人/某事上浪费某物”。
e.g. Why do you waste money on clothes you don’t need?你为什么把钱浪费在你不需要的衣服上？2-1-c-n-j-y
③waste sth. (in) doing sth.表示“做某事浪费某物”。
e.g. You are wasting your time (in) trying to explain it to him.你试图给他解释是浪费时间。
ahead of time / schedule“提前”。
e.g. Please get ready ahead of time.
请提前做好准备。
ahead of 还有“在……前面；在……前头；领先，占优势”的意思。
