1. Analysis of the Students

2. Analysis of Teaching Content
Lesson 53 is the fifth lesson in Unit 9, Book 5.This unit focus on the subject Communication, Students cares about the subject because it is close to everyone. Lesson 53 mainly talks about Li Tian always absent from the group meeting, so that the group doesn’t work. Yi Han has some troubles that to help their group work well together.

1. To master the words: absent, trouble, secret.
2. To master the phrases: look forward to, be absent from, slowed down / up, so far, from now on.

Step 1. Warm-up
Play a writing game: Write down the word that has "th" your groups or by yourself. Such as think, that, mouth….
Show the words.

Step 2. Presentation
Explain the words according to the pictures.

(1) The group is working slowly. Yi Han wants to solve the problem. What does she do?

Explain the language points:
look forward to“盼望,期待”,其中to为介词 ,后跟名词、代词或动词的-ing形式。

be absent from“缺席;不到 场”。
e.g. He’ll be absent from school tomorrow.
他明天不上学。
refuse作动词,“拒绝,谢绝”,后面常接名词、代词或动词不定式。
e.g. He refused to help me with my English.
他不帮我学英语。
slow down / up 的意思是“(使)慢下来;(使)减速;放松;延误;(使)平静下来”。

到学校大门时要放慢车速。

天气延误了很多飞机的起飞。
I began to dance in order to slow myself down.
我开始跳舞,以便使自己平静下来。
so far“迄今为止,到目前为止”,常与 现在完成时连用,既可放在句首、句中,也可放在句尾。
e.g. He has finished five tasks so far.
到现在为止,他已经完成五个任务了。
The weather has been too cold so far this winter.
到目前为止,今年的冬天一直很冷。
It’s not that I don’t want to be in the group. 不是我不想参加这个组。【出处:21教育名师】
(1) it是虚义用法,表示一种情况,可理解为“这,那”;that用来引导表语从句。
e.g. It was not that I couldn’t do it.
那不是我不能做那件事。
(2) not that可以和 but (that) 连用,连接两个表示转折的并列分句和主句,意思是“不是……,而是……”。【来源:21cnj*y.co*m】

不是我不想见你,而是我没时间。
Not that I care what they said, but (that) it is you I am worrying about.
我不是在乎他们说过的话,而现在担忧的是你。
from now on意为“从现在起”,常用于一般将来时。还有一个与此类似的短语from then on,意为“从那时起”,常用于一般过去时。
e.g. From now on, I’m going to work hard.
我打算今后努力工作。
do / try one’s best to do sth. “尽自己最大努力做某事”。
e.g. They did / tried their best to pass the exam.
他们尽最大努力满足我。
consider doing sth. 意为“考虑做某事”,动词consider 后的动词要用动名词形式,也可加宾语从句。
eg. He considers telling his mother about these problems.
他考虑把这些问题告诉他妈妈。
只能跟动词不定式不能跟动词-ing形式作宾语的常见动词还有agree, aim, arrange, choose, decide, demand, desire, determine, expect, hope, learn, manage, offer, prepare, pretend, promise, resolve, seek, swear, threaten, undertake, venture, volunteer等。
Step 3. Practice
Listen and follow to the tape.
Read the text again and answer the questions.
Who is the leader of the group?
What are her problems?
Did Yi Han tell Ms. Liu about these problems?
What did her decide to do?
Who needs help in the group?
What's the result of their communication?
What can you learn from Yi Han?
Check the answers.
Fill in the blanks with the correct forms of the words or phrases in the box on page 139.
