What is T.B
It is a disease that damages the lungs.
In 1916, Norman Bethune graduated from the
University of Toronto. With a lot of hard work, he
found new ways to help people with T.B. – a disease
that damages the lungs. He also invented tools that
remain in use today.
2. Why did Bethune go to China
Because he knew many people were dying
in the war.
Norman Bethune is well known for helping the
Chinese people in the Anti-Japanese War. In 1938,
he made a decision to go to northern China because
he knew many people were dying in the war.
3. What do Chinese people think of Bethune
He is a hero.
In China, Norman Bethune is a hero. People remember
how hard he worked day after day in the worst possible
conditions to help others. He once operated for sixty-nine
hours straight without stopping.
4. What did Chinese people do to remember him
The government set up Bethune Medical School
and Bethune International Peace Hospital
in Shijiazhuang.
