Shedding tears(流泪) is a natural way of making us feel more comfortable. When our eyes are made uncomfortable by some small pieces of pollution, or when we are cutting onions, or when we are exhausted(精疲力竭; 疲劳) and have “red-eyes” from overwork and late hours, tears form in our eyes to clean and refresh them.
Tears are also a sign of strong emotion. We cry when we are sad and we cry when we are happy.
And tears seem to be uniquely (惟独) human. We know that animals also experience emotion ——fear, pleasure, loneliness——but they do not shed (流) tears. From this, we can conclude that tears are closely related to the emotional and biological make-up(结构;组成) of the human species.
Biologically speaking, tears are actually drops of saline fluid, which is a little bit salty, produced by a gland (腺) in the body.Because salt is an important component, tears may actually constitute the most conclusive evidence that the human animal is the end product of a long evolutionary process that began in the sea.
And it is clear that, in addition to (除了) the emotional benefits (好处), the shedding of tears has a specific biological function as well.Through tears, we can eliminate from our body certain chemicals which build up in response to stress and create a chemical imbalance(不平衡) in the body.Crying actually makes us feel better by correcting that imbalance and making us feel good again. And thus the emotional and biological functions of tears merge (合并) into one and make us even more “human” than we would otherwise be.

Why does cream go bad faster than butter Some researcher think they have the answer, and it comes down to the structure (结构) of the food, not its chemical composition (成份)— a finding that could help break away from some chemicals.Cream and butter contain pretty much the same things, so why cream should go bad much faster has been a problem. Both are small globules (小球) of one liquid spread throughout another. The difference lies in what’s in the globules and what’s in the surrounding liquid, says Brocklehurst, who led the research. In cream, fatty globules drift about in a sea of water. In butter, globules of a watery road are locked away in a sea of fat.The bacteria (细菌) which make the food go bad prefer to live in the watery areas of the mixture.“This means that in cream, the bacteria are free to grow through the mixture,” he says. When in butter, the bacteria are locked away in locked places buried deep in the sea of fat.Trapped in this way, those colonies cannot spread and rapidly run out. They also slowly poison themselves with their waste products.“In butter, you get a self-limiting system which stops the bacteria growing.” The researchers are already working with food companies eager to see if their products can be made to stand bacterial attack through changes of the food’s structure.Brocklehurst believes it will be possible to make something used in salad cream for instance, more like that in butter. The key to doing this will be keeping the salad cream liquid and not turning it into a solid state.
66、The significance of Brokclehurst’s research is that .
A. it suggested a way to keep some foods fresh without using some chemicals
B. it discovered small globules in both cream and butter
C. it showed the secret of how bacteria increase in cream and butter
D. it found that cream and butter share the same chemical composition
67、According to the researchers, cream goes bad faster than butter because bacteria .
A. are stronger in cream
B. increase their number more easily in cream than in butter
C. live on less fat in cream than in butter
D. produce less waste in cream than in butter
68、According to Brocklehurst, we can keep cream fresh by .
A. removing its fat
B. killing the bacteria
C. reducing its water
D. changing its structure
69、The underlined word “ colonies ” refers to .
A. tiny globules
B. watery regions
C. bacteria society
D. little departments
70、Commercial use of the research finding will be possible if salad cream can be made to stand bacterial attack .
A. by changing its chemical composition
B. by turning it into a solid lump
C. while keeping its structure unchanged
D. while its liquid form remains

Literature is a term used to describe written as well as spoken material. Generally speaking, it is often used to describe anything from creative imagination, including works of poetry, drama and fiction.
Then why read literature, since it is often imaginary and seems unconnected with real life
A lot of us read literature for pleasure and relaxation. It’s always pleasant to read some interesting books, such as comedies and novels, in our spare time. In a modern life full of pressure, it is our common desire to read some imaginary works and seek relaxation from the stress in life.
Reading literature is more than fun; it also enables us to acquire knowledge. As a general rule, literature represents a language or a people, and it often gives us an insight(洞察力)into the traditions, customs, beliefs, attitudes and values of the age in which it was written.
Sometimes literature can even offer us new, creative ways to have a better understanding of the world. It helps us make sense of the world around us. It introduces us to new worlds of experiences. We enjoy the comedy and the tragedy of poems, stories and plays; and we may even grow through our literary journey with books. Eventually, we may discover meaning in literature by looking at what the author says and how he/she says it. In a sense, we explore the human condition and analyze how and why people think the way they think and feel the way they feel. Literature enables us to think analytically and promotes open minds. We see the world through the eyes of different cultures and in turn learn the ways to deal with things that happen around.
So we can definitely say literature is of great importance to us. Why not get going with one poem, drama or fiction at once

One possible version:
Dear Kathy,
I am so glad to hear that you’ll come to Xuzhou, China for a visit.
I’ll be free almost every weekend, especially during the week-long National holiday when we will stay away from school for at least seven days. When you come , you may take a plane to Xuzhou. As soon as you arrive , you can either call me to pick you up from the airport or take a bus directly to my home. I’ll be waiting for you at the bus stop not far from my home.
Since you haven’t been to my hometown before, you may worry about the weather here, which is quite different from that in Canada. It is cool in autumn in Xuzhou, so you needn’t bring heavy clothes with you. During your stay in my home, I’ll show you around some places of interest, taste some local snacks and go boating with you. I’m sure we’ll have great fun together.
I’m looking forward to meeting you soon.
Your ever,
Li Xiaodong
