World War II lasted from 1939 to 1945. Life changed for everybody, including women and children because of the war. Millions of people lost their lives during the war. The Diary of a Young Girl was a record of that time. The book was written by a girl named Anne Frank.www.21-cn-jy.com
Anne Frank was born in Germany in June 1929. Because the German Nazi(纳粹分子) hated the Jews(犹太人) and wanted to kill them, her family had to move to another country. In July 1942, they went into hiding in a secret place in her father’s office. During that difficult time, Anne kept writing diaries until she and her family were discovered by the Nazis in August 1944. They were caught and sent to a Nazi camp. The next year, her mother died. After the war, her father collected her diaries and the book The Diary of a Young Girl came out in 1947. It has been put into over 30 languages since then. The book has been read by people all over the world. In her diary, Anne wrote down her thoughts, her feelings, her hopes and her dreams for the future, “I want the diary to be my friend, and I’m going to call this friend Kitty.” “I can’t spend all day complaining because it’s impossible to have any fun! ... Winston Churchill was born into a famous family. His father was a successful politician. However, as a boy, Churchill was considered a slow learner in school. Later he entered the Army and fought in various countries. 21教育名师原创作品
In October 1900, Churchill began his political career. For the next sixty years Churchill’s work as a great politician was both brighter and more difficult than his father had been.
In 1939, Germany attacked Poland. He became the Prime Minster of England in 1940 when France fell. The Germans fought their way through Western Europe. It looked as if Britain was about to lose the war.
But Churchill didn’t think so. He spoke, “I have nothing to offer but blood, hard
work, tears and sweat...You ask what is our policy? I will tell you, it is to fight, by sea, by land and air, with all our force and with all the strength that God can give us. You ask what is our aim? I can answer in one word: victory.”
The Germans began moving their armies to the French coast and prepared to go to war with the British. The British had then no enough guns to resist. Churchill gave the answer: “We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the coasts, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the field and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never give up.”
By his courage and hard work Churchill heartened his people and other nations to fight against Hitler. Victory finally came when the Germans lost World War II.
Churchill died in 1965 and was given a State Funeral (国葬), as one of all the greatest men the world had ever seen.

Most of us know about the Nobel Prize, especially the Nobel Peace Prize, but few of us know anything about the man who set them up. He was Alfred Nobel from Sweden, known as a great scientist and inventor. In addition, he had a big business. It might be incredible. He researched and invented explosives(炸药). Though Alfred Nobel made a living by selling weapons, he hated war. He hoped that there would be no war in the world. He was one of the richest persons in Europe. When he died in 1896, he left behind a large amount of money and his famous will(遗嘱). According to his will, most of his money was placed in a fund(基金). He wanted any interest(利润) from the fund to be used as prizes every year. We know them as the Nobel Prizes. The Nobel Prizes are international. Alfred Nobel wanted the winners to be chosen for their work, in spite of the country they came from.
