A
Some people make you feel comfortable when they are around. You spend an hour with them and feel as if you have known them half your life. These people have something in common. And once we know what it is, we can try to do it ourselves.
How is it done Here are several skills that good talkers have. If you follow the skills, they’ll help you put people at their ease, and make friends with them quickly.
First of all, good talkers ask questions. Almost anyone, no matter how shy he is, will answer a question. One well-known businesswoman says, “At business lunches, I always ask people what they did that morning. It’s a common question, but it will get things going.” From there you can move on to other matters—sometimes to really personal questions. And how he answers will let you know how far you can go.
Second, once good talkers have asked questions, they listen to the answers. This point seems clear, but it isn’t. Your questions should have a point and help to tell what sort of person you are talking to. And to find out, you really have to listen carefully and attentively.
Real listening at least means some things. First it means not to change the subject of conversation. If someone sticks to one topic, you can take it as a fact that he’s really interested in it. Real listening also means not just listening to words, but to tones(音调) of voice. If the voice sounds dull, then, it’s time for you to change the subject.
Finally, good talkers know well how to deal with the occasion of parting. If you’re saying good-bye, you may give him a firm handshake and say, “I’ve really enjoyed meeting you.” If you want to see that person again, don’t keep it a secret. Let people know what you feel, and they may walk away feeling as if they’ve known you half their life.
56. Asking questions might be a quite good and suitable way _______.
A. for you to make more and more new friends
B. to begin your business talks
C. to get the conversation going smoothly
D. for you to make a deep and lasting impression on others
57. After having asked somebody a question, it’ll be polite of you to _______.
A. make clear what kind of person he is
B. listen to his reply attentively
C. wait quietly and patiently for his answer
D. go on asking him more questions
58. Generally speaking, good talkers are persons who _______.
A. are good at making any topic interesting
B. never talk too much or too little
C. always speak in a gentle way
D. know how and when they should change the topic of the talk
59. If you really take delight in meeting someone again, _______.
A. you may take him as your lifelong trustworthy friend
B. it seems necessary for you to let him know it
C. it’s proper for you to give him a second handshake
D. it’ll be helpful for you to have further understanding of him
B
There are robots all around us. Some do very complicated jobs like flying airplanes and driving subway trains. And some do one simple job. When an automatic washing machine is switched on, water pours in. The machine waits until the water is warm enough for washing clothes. It does this by “feedback”(反馈). Information about what is happening is feedback into the robot to tell what to do next. Our eyes, ears and other senses are our feedback. They tell us what is going on around us. So robots are like human beings in two ways. They work and they have feedback.
In some ways robots are better than human beings. They work quickly and do not make mistakes. They do not get bored doing the same job over and over again. And they never get tired. So robots are very useful in factories. They can be taught to do many different jobs. First their electronic brain must be shown how the job is done. A person moves the robot’s “arms” and “hands” through each part of the job.
The most intelligent robots can move and see. Their eyes are cameras. Their fingers can feel shapes and sizes of the objects. These robots have computer brains linked to their eyes and fingers, which control their actions. The most intelligent robots--cave robots are used in scientific research. They do such job as handling radioactive materials.
60. In this passage the author tells us that ________.
A. robots are very popular B. there are various kinds of robots
C. we see robots only at certain times D. robots can be easily controlled
61. What does the author seem to inform you about robots
A. They should be greatly improved.
B. They will probably take over in the future.
C. They are very helpful and useful to humans.
D. They are machines that break down a lot.
62. The author says that in industry ________.
A. robots break down a lot B. robots can do many jobs
C. robots only get in the way D. robots sometimes cause troubles
63. The fact that a robot never gets bored doing the same job means that _______.
A. it is very much like human beings B. it can do boring jobs for people
C. it will never bore people D. it will work much better than human beings
C
“It hurts me more than you”, and “This is for your own good” —these are the statements my mother used to make to raise my sense of discipline(纪律) when I had to learn Latin, clean my room, stay home and do homework.
That was before we entered the permissive period in education in which we decided it was all right not to push our children to achieve their best in school. The schools and the educators made it easy for us. They taught that it was all right to be parents who take a let-alone policy. We stopped making our children do homework. We gave them calculators, turned on the television, left the teaching to the teachers and went on vacation.
Now teachers, faced with children who have been developing at their own pace for the past 15 years, are realizing we’ve made a terrible mistake. One such teacher is Sharon Clomps who says of her students—“so passive” —and wonders what has happened. Nothing is demanded of them, she believes. Television, says Clomps, contributes to children’s passivity(被动). “We’re talking about a generation of kids who’ ve never been hurt or hungry. They have learned somebody will always do it for them, instead of saying ‘go and look it up’, you tell them the answer. It takes greater energy to say no to a kid.”
Yes, it does. It takes energy and it takes work. It’s time for parents to end their vacation and come back to work. It’ s time to turn the TV off, to tell them it hurts you more than them but it’ s for their own good. It’s s time to start telling them no again.
64. Children are becoming more inactive in study because _______.
A. they watch TV too often B. they have done too much homework
C. they have to fulfill too many duties D. teachers are too strict with them
65. We learn from the passage that the author’s mother used to lay stress on _______.
A. learning Latin B. discipline
C. natural development D. education at school
66. By “permissive period in education” (L.1, Para.2) the author means a time _______.
A. when children are allowed to do what they wish to
B. when everything can be taught at school
C. when every child can be educated
D. when children are permitted to receive education
67. The main idea of the passage is that _______.
A. parents should leave their children alone
B. kids should have more activities at school
C. it’s time to be more strict with our kids
D. parents should always set a good example to their kids
D
Most of us let our eyes decide what our bodies need. Our ideas about what we eat are more important than the food itself, what our stomachs can hold, or what we need in this moment for food, strong energy. Our families, social situations, society, and marketing campaigns dictate the choices most people make about how they feed themselves. Sometimes we’re provided with very useful guidelines and models. But you need to stop and ask: Are you feeding yourself in ways that personally make sense to your body’s unique and ever-changing needs and rhythms.
In this country, food is available all the time. Unlike our ancestors who ate in harmony with seasonal cycles of abundance and scarcity(缺乏),harvest and hunting, we eat as though we’re constantly feasting. Really, we eat non-stop. We fill our stomachs until we’re uncomfortable, and we put more food in the shopping cart than we need. This abundance of food and our own fast-paced convenience culture keep us from recognizing our own personal rhythms. We eat for many reasons, not necessarily because we’re physically hungry or need certain nutrients to keep healthy.
With more and more processed foods(精加工的食品) in the marketplace, obesity in adults and children dramatically on the rise, and digestive problems increasingly more common, it’s clear that we’re facing a serious health crisis. The answer, however, isn’t to just put Americans on a diet. Reducing the intake of processed foods and increasing fresh produce and whole grains certainly can improve one’s health. But we need more. We need to feed ourselves with a sense of purpose, focus, self-love, and passion for our lives.
68. In the first paragraph, the author suggests we________.
A. let our eyes decide what we should eat B. choose eating ways that always make sense
C. make our eating styles meet our taste only D. not accept those guidelines and models
69. What does the underlined part mean in the text _____
A. Seasonal foods can be easily bought B. Foods can keep fresh all the time
C. People are wasting foods nowadays D. The prices of foods have been changing
70. By saying “we eat for many reasons”, the author in fact wants to show________.
A. people are easy to become hungry B. nutrients are necessary for us to keep healthy.
C. sometimes people eat not only for their health D. eating can benefit our body in many ways
71. Which of the following may cause health crisis ______
A. Processed foods B. Fresh produce C. Whole grains D. Various vegetables

The country will adjust its financial market rules so they are accepted around the world, encourage reforms and promote more flexible, diversified ways of trading, according to the bank.

第二节 阅读表达(满分15分)
阅读下面短文,按要求完成文章后各题。
Safety in the highway is not totally out of hands. Here are four ways we can protect ourselves when we travel.
You are safer in a large car. People in small cars are injured more often and more severely than people traveling in large cars. Factories of small cars are strengthening their products’ safety, which helps. But the mix of large cars and small cars on the road is the main reason of the problem.
Being thrown into glass and metal car parts, or being thrown from the car, can really damage to you. That’s why safety belts should be worn. The safety belt’s main purpose is ___________if your car has a sudden crash with another vehicle or object, or if it rolls over. A belt can reduce the chance of fatal injury by 45% and the chance of serious injury by 50%.
Air bags are important. More than half of all new cars sold have air bags. Air bags provide protection in frontal(正面的)crashes——the type of crash that kills the most drivers——when they are also wearing safety belts. Most people are demanding air bags in the cars they buy. But the protection provided by air bags is limited in side or rear crashes; effective as they are, they can’t take the place of safety belts.
Drunk driving crashes are less likely to happen if you don’t drink. Drunk driving is the most serious problem. Many people have realized that drunk driving can lead to death and injury, prison time and other results. There are movements to strengthen penalties(处罚) for drinking and driving.
