DNA is like a blueprint. What’s a blueprint? Generally speaking, a blueprint is a drawing. You use it to build a house. A blueprint shows where to put all the parts of the house. It’s the pattern you use to build the house.
DNA is a pattern, too. Your body uses this pattern to build itself. DNA is the “blueprint of life.”

Your DNA is in every part of your body. Your finger has the same DNA as your hair. Your bones have the same DNA as your skin.
You have your own DNA, but it repeats the patterns from your parents’ DNA.
From your DNA, scientists can identify not only you, but also people related to you. Who is related to you? Your mother and father are related to you. So are their sisters, brothers and parents.
Some health problem come from your family’s DNA. Scientist can look for these problems in your DNA.
Sometimes they can help you before you become sick.
