I am a kindergarten teacher and I do love my job, as I enjoy working with small children and like the challenges and awards from the job. I also think my work is important. There was a time when I thought I would never have that sort of career.
I wasn’t an excellent student because I didn’t do much schoolwork. In my final term I started thinking what I might do and found I didn’t have much to offer. I just accepted that I wasn’t the type to have a career.
I then found myself a job looking after two little girls. It wasn’t too bad at first. But the problems began when I agreed to live in, so that I would be there if my boss had to go out for business in the evening. We agreed that if I had to work extra hours one week, she’d give me time off the next. But unfortunately, it didn’t often work out. I was getting extremely tired and fed up, because I had too many late nights and early mornings with the children.
One Sunday, I was in the park with the children, and met Megan who used to go to school with me. I told her about my situation. She suggested that I should do a course and get a qualification(资格证书)if I wanted to work with children. I didn’t think I would be accepted because I didn’t take many exams in school. She persuaded me to phone the local college and they were really helpful. My experience counted for a lot and I got on a part-time course. I had to leave my job with the family, and got work helping out at a kindergarten.
Now I’ve got a full-time job there. I shall always be thankful to Megan. I wish I had known earlier that you could have a career, even if you aren’t top of the class at school.
25. What is the author’s present job?
A. Working part-time in a college.
B. Taking care of children for a family.
C. Helping children with their schoolwork.
D. Looking after children at a kindergarten.
26. When staying with the two girls’ family, the author ________.
A. was paid for extra work B. often worked long hours
C. got much help from her boss D. took a day off every other week
27. Why did the author leave her first job?

B. She was fed up with children.
C. She decided to attend a part-time course.

28. What has the author learned from her own experiences?
A. Less successful students can still have a career.
B. Qualifications are necessary for a career.
C. Hard work makes an excellent student.
D. One must choose the job she like
C
Some teenagers start to drink alcohol at a young age. They think it is part of becoming an adult. They also think drinking is not that bad because so many people do it.
Parents may start to notice a change in their child’s behavior if the child starts drinking. Teenagers who drink sometimes stop doing things they normally like to do. They may keep telephone calls and meetings a secret and not want anybody to touch their things. They become angry easily and do not have the same eating and sleeping habits.
Parents need to care about their children’s lives. They should talk to their children about their problems to be aware of any change.
Parents can be the best protection. Children who get a lot of love can feel good about themselves. It helps them stop doing bad things even when other children are doing them. Parents can also help set a good example by not drinking. They can have firm rules at home that everyone follows.
Give the children good ideas on how to say “no” to drinking, even when they are at a party. Try not to overreact or panic (惊慌) if the child tries alcohol. How you deal with it can affect their attitudes. It may be helpful to talk to other parents about setting up bans and rules about parties or other events.

When I graduated from college, the job market was really bad. I did many first-round interviews and second-round interviews. My interviews turned out to be bad. In honesty, I do need a job. Are you going to give me a job?
No matter how many jobs I looked at, however, nothing felt like the right choice for me. At the end of my endless job struggle, I faced a big decision. I could have moved to New York as everyone from college did. But I was practical. I needed a big change.
So instead, I took a job in a city I had never been to. And it was Buenos Aires, Argentina. It was amazing and it was the best decision I’d ever made.
Looking back, it was mostly crazy. I had the best year of my life. I met people from all over the world. I danced until six on the weekends, feeling the weird experience of it being night and morning at the same time. My bag got washed away by rain in Rio de Janeiro. I climbed up the Pao de Azucar to see one of the most beautiful views I’ve ever seen. I worked with young women who needed career advice and English help. I worked really hard and I knew what it was like to build a life.
My time in Argentina gave me big distance, really, from everything and everyone I knew. It turned my life upside down to figure out what I wanted. I came back to the United States with a fresh view and a strong knowledge of myself. It was also in Argentina that my first tries at humor writing began, something that I enthusiastically continue today as a PR business man and an author.
