Background
珠穆朗玛峰（珠峰）是喜马拉雅山脉的主峰，是世界海拔最高的山峰，位于中国与尼泊尔边境线上。2005年中国国家测绘局测量的岩面高（裸高即地质高度）为8844.43米。
撒哈拉沙漠是世界最大的沙漠，几乎占满整个非洲北部。沙漠东西约长4,800公里(3000英里)，南北在1300公里至1900公里(800至1200英里)之间，总面积约9065000km 。

population意为“人口”,作主语时谓语动词用单数。但是“分数/百分数+of the population”作主语时,谓语动词用复数。问人口多少:What’s the population of China =How large is the population of China 中国有多少人
eg:The population of the city is three million.

Three fourths of the population in the city are from other parts of the country.这个城市四分之三的人口来自全国其他地方。
It’s a lot bigger than the population of the US.
a lot bigger大多了,bigger是比较级,前面用a lot修饰。a lot,a little,much,a bit,still,even,far等可以用来修饰形容词或副词的比较级,表示程度,起强调作用。【拓展】表示“某地有多少人口”用…has a population of…或The population of… is…。
eg:My room is a little smaller than yours.
