Five years ago, when I taught art at a school in Seattle, I used Tinkertoys(万能工匠) as a test at the beginning of a term to find out something about my students. I put a small set of Tinkertoys in front of each student, and said:” Make something out of the Tinkertoys. You have 45 minutes today and 45minutes each day for the rest of the week.”
A few students hesitated to start. They waited to see the rest of the class would do. Several others checked the instructions and made something according to one of the model plans provided. Another group built something out of their own imaginations.
Once I had a boy who worked experimentally with Tinkertoys in his free time. His constructions filled a shelf in the art classroom and a good part of his bedroom at home. I was delighted at the presence of such a student. Here was an exceptionally(格外地) creative mind at work. His presence(存在) meant that I had an unexpected teaching assistant in class whose creativity would infect(感染) other students.
Encouraging this kind of thinking has a downside. I ran the risk of losing those students who had a different style of thinking. Without fail one would declare,” But I’m just not creative.”
“Do you dream at night when you’re asleep ”
“Oh, sure.”
“So tell me one of your most interesting dreams.” The student would tell something wildly imaginative. Flying in the sky or in a time machine or growing three heads. “That’s pretty creative. Who does that for you ”
“Nobody. I do it.”
“Really-at night, when you’re asleep ”
“Sure.”
“Try doing it in the daytime, in class, ok ”
25. The teacher used Tinkertoys in class in order to ________
A. know more about the students B. make the lessons more exciting
C. raise the students’ interest in art D. teach the students about toy design
26. What do we know about the boy mentioned in Paragraph 3
A. He liked to help his teacher. B. He preferred to study alone.
C. He was active in class. D. He was creative.
27. What does the underlined word “downside” in Paragraph 4 probably mean
A. Mistake. B. Drawback(缺点,劣势). C. Difficulty. D. Burden.
28. Why did the teacher ask the students to talk about their dreams
A. To help them to see their creativity. B. To find out about their sleeping habits.
C. To help them to improve their memory. D. To find out about their ways of thinking.

Weeks of rain had flooded the train line. The late evening train from Glasgow couldn’t move, so the driver backed up to the nearest station where we sat and waited for about half an hour with no one knowing what was going on. I didn’t mind. I wasn’t going home to anyone, I had music to listen to and it wouldn’t be the first night I had slept on a train, but not everyone would be in that position.
We sat another half an hour and then the driver announced (宣布) he was taking the train back to Glasgow and anyone who didn’t want to come with it should get out now, so a train load of people descended(下) the train. The station was closed and the only cover was a bus shelter. It seemed the little country town was closed for the night.
Wandering (漫步) outside the station I saw a taxi. I was about to jump in and head off when among the crowd I noticed a young woman with a baby that looked only weeks old. I asked her if she wanted to share the taxi. She looked at me up and down. Her eyes shone. She didn’t have enough money she explained, but she could pay when she got home. I invited her to take the taxi with me. She gave me a warm smile. Maybe my appearance told her that I could be trusted. In the silence of the journey, seeing the baby sleeping in the warm taxi, I suddenly felt very happy.
Nearing home I asked the driver to stop. I could walk the mile from here. He should take the mother and the baby straight home, and I gave him enough money to cover the full fare(车费)for both of us. That night, I had a sound sleep because my heart was full of happiness because of helping the woman and the baby.
29. What can we learn from the first paragraph
A. The train stopped because it broke down in the flood. B. No one waited for the man at home.
C. The man enjoyed sleeping on the train. D. Everyone became very anxious except the man.
30. How did the woman feel when the man offered to share his taxi with her
A. Uninterested and angry. B. Disappointed and nervous.
C. Surprised and thankful. D. Nervous and uninterested.
31. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage
A. The man knew that the woman lived near his home.
B. The woman accepted the offer at once.
C. The man helped the woman mainly because of her baby.
D. The man paid the woman’s fare without asking to be paid back.
32. Which of the following can be inferred from the passage
A. Helping others can make one happy. B. Sharing a taxi is a good way to save money.
C. Helping others can help one sleep better. D. Appearances are more important than words.
D
Happiness is for everyone. You don't need to care about those people who have beautiful houses with large gardens and swimming pools or those who have nice cars and a lot of money and so on. Why?Because those who have big houses may often feel lonely and those who have cars may want to walk on the country roads in their free time.
In fact, happiness is always around you if you put your heart into it. When you are in trouble at school, your friends will help you;when you study hard at your lessons, your parents are always taking good care of your life and your health;when you get success, your friends will say congratulations to you;when you do something wrong, people around you will help you to correct it. And when you do something good to others, you will feel happy, too. All these are your happiness. If you notice a bit of them, you can see that happiness is always around you.
Happiness is not the same as money. It is a feeling of your heart. When you are poor, you can also say you are very happy, because you have something else that can't be bought with money. When you meet with difficulties, you can say loudly you are very happy, because you have more chances to challenge yourself. So you cannot always say you are poor and you have bad luck. As the saying goes, life is like a revolving(旋转的)door. When it closes,it also opens. If you take every chance you get,you can be a happy and lucky person.
33.Those who have big houses may often feel________.
A.happy B.lonely C.free D.excited
34.When you fall down in a PE class, both your teacher and your classmates will________.
A.laugh at you B.play jokes on you
C.quarrel with you D.help you up
35.Which of the following is this passage about
A.Bad luck. B.Good luck.
C.Happiness. D. Life
第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。
Everyone knows that fish is good for health. 36 But it seems that many people don’t cook fish at home. Americans eat only about fifteen pounds of fish per person per year, but we eat twice as much fish in restaurants as at home. Buying, storing, and cooking fish isn’t difficult. 37 This text is about how to buy and cook fish in an easy way.
38 Fresh fish should smell sweet: you should feel that you’re standing at the ocean’s edge. Any fishy or strong smell means the fish isn’t fresh. 39 When you have bought a fish and arrive home, you’d better store the fish in the refrigerator if you don’t cook it immediately, but fresh fish should be stored in your fridge for only a day or two. Frozen fish isn’t as tasty as the fresh one.
There are many common methods used to cook fish. 40 First, clean it and season it with
your choice of spices(调料). Put the whole fish on a plate and steam it in a steam pot for 8 to 10
minutes if it weighs about one pound. (A larger one will take more time.) Then, it’s ready to serve.
A. Do not buy it.
B. The easiest is to steam(蒸) it.
C. This is how you can do it.
D. It just requires a little knowledge.
E. The fish will go bad within hours.
F. When buying fish, you should first smell it.
G. The fats in fish are thought to help prevent heart disease.
