Restaurants in the USA
Steve’s Pizza
So many pizza chains compete for the attention of tourists in South Beach, but ask a
Miami Beach local where to get the best pizza and they’ll tell you about Steve’s. This is New York–style pizza, handmade with care and good ingredients(成份). New branches of Steve’s are
opening elsewhere in Miami, all in non-tourist areas.【21·世纪·教育·网】
Opening hours: 11am-3am
Cattleman’s Steakhouse
This place is 20 miles east of the city, but local folks would probably drive 200 miles to eat here. The food is good, and the scenery is even better. Come early and wander around the grounds

Opening hours: 5pm-10pm
Absolute Baking & Café
The screen door is always swinging open at this town hot spot with giant breakfasts. Try the green chili on eggs--it’s made from scratch, as are the organic (有机的) breads. Lunch includes salads, big sandwiches and local grass-fed beef burgers. Don’t miss a square of soft, fresh carrot
cake.
Opening hours: 7am-2pm
Walt’s Wharf
Everybody’s favorite for fresh fish (some drive in from LA), Walt’s packs them in on weekends. You can’t make reservations for dinner (though they’re accepted for lunch), but it’s worth the wait for the tree fire-grilled seafood and steaks in the many-windowed ground floor or
upstairs in captain’s chairs.

In front of the Shibuya train station in Tokyo, there is a life-size bronze statue (雕像) of a dog. Though the statue is very small when compared to the huge neon signs (霓虹灯) flashing, it isn’t difficult to find. It has been used as a meeting point since 1934 and today you will find hundreds of people waiting there for their friends to arrive—just look for the crowds.
Hachiko, an Akita dog, was born in 1923 and brought to Tokyo in 1924. His owner, Eisaburo Uyeno, was a professor at the Imperial University. They were close friends from the very beginning. Each day Hachiko would accompany his owner to Shibuya train station when he left for work. When the professor came back, he would always find the dog patiently waiting for him. Sadly, the professor died suddenly at work in 1925 before he could return home.21教育网
Although Hachiko was still a young dog, the bond between him and his owner was very strong. He continued to wait for the professor at the station every day. Sometimes, he would stay there for days at a time, though some believe that he kept returning because of the food he was given by street sellers. He became a familiar sight to people coming and going over time. In 1934, a statue of him was put outside the station. A year later, Hachiko died at the place he last saw his friend alive.
24. Why is the statue not difficult to find?
A. It’s a famous scenic spot in Japan. B. It’s a meeting place for the people.
C. It’s larger than the other statues. D. The station is the largest in Japan.
25. Which has the similar meaning as the underlined word “bond” in the last paragraph?
A. relationship B. desire C. contact D. difference
26. Which of the following word can best describe the dog?
A. Friendly. B. Thoughtful. C. Devoted. D. Enthusiastic.
27.When did Hachiko die?
A. In 1924. B. In 1925. C. In 1934. D. In 1935.

Most children don't want their parents to go to their schools and they don't like parent-teacher meetings. They are afraid of their parents. But sometimes they do not do what their parents tell them to do. When this happens, a parent tries to help the child to do the right thing. When this does not work, the parent usually punishes the child.
There are many things that a parent can do. One thing that people have done is to spank (打屁股) the child. When a parent spanks a child, he will use his hand or something hard to strike the child on the bottom. The parents want to show their children they have done something wrong.
One problem with spanking is that it teaches the child to hit someone when they do not like what the other person is doing. Another problem with spanking is that the parent is usually angry and can hit the child too hard. Sometimes parents will use spanking for everything and not try other ways to get the child to do the right thing.
Many parents are not sure of what to do instead of spanking. Some people think spanking is okay. Some think that the law lets them do it. The courts (法院) say that parents have the right to teach their children how to behave.
Other things should be tried before a parent decides to spank a child. Taking a more child-friendly way can help as well. Giving a child more than one choice is another thing that can be tried.

D. The parent may get angry and hit the child too hard.
30.What is the writer's attitude towards spanking?
A. He is against it . B. He is interested it.

Green is an important color in nature. It is the color of grass and the leaves on trees. It is also the color of most growing plants.
Sometimes, the word green means young, fresh and growing. Sometimes, it describes something that is not yet ripe or finished. For example, a greenhorn is someone who has no experience, who is new to a situation. In the fifteenth century, a greenhorn was a young cow or ox whose horns(角) had not yet developed. A century later, a greenhorn was a soldier who had not yet had any experience in battle. By the eighteenth century, a greenhorn had the meaning it has today — a person who is new in a job.
Someone who has the ability to grow plants well is said to have a green thumb. The expression comes from early nineteen hundreds. A person with a green thumb seems to have a magic touch that makes plants grow quickly and well. You might say that the woman next door has a green thumb if her garden continues to grow long after your plants have died.
The Green Revolution is the name given some years ago to the development of new kinds of rice and other grains. The new plants produced much larger crops. The Green Revolution was the result of hard work by agricultural scientists who had green thumbs.
Green is also the color used to describe the powerful feeling , jealousy (嫉妒). The green-eyed monster is not a frightening creature from outer space. It is an expression used about four hundred years ago by British writer William Shakespeare in his play “Othello”. It describes the unpleasant feeling a person has when someone has something he wants. A young man may suffer from the green-eyed monster if his girlfriend begins going out with someone else. Or, that green-eyed monster may affect your friend if you get a pay rise and he does not.
32. A greenhorn now refers to ____.
A. a cow without horns B. a new solider
C. a young horse D. a person who is new in a job
33. A person who has a green thumb is a person ____.
A. whose thumbs are of green color B. who is good at growing plants
C. whose garden is greener than others’ D. who is younger than his neighbors
34. The author is actually talking about ____.
A. colors B. politics C. language D. agriculture
35. What’s the best title of the passage?
