考点一 表请求、允许、命令与能力等的情态动词
1、can 表请求、允许和能力
（1） 表示能力
此时表示一般性的能力。
Can you speak Spanish 你会讲西班牙语吗？
Who can answer this question 谁能回答这个问题 ？
（2） 表示“请求允许”，多用于口语中。
Can I help you 我可以帮你吗？
Mom , can I wear my new dress today
妈妈，今天我可以我的新连衣裙吗？
（3） 表示“允许”
表示“允许（做某事）”，与may的意思差不多，在日常口语中常用can .
You can park your car here . 你可以把车停在这里。
You can phone me after six this afternoon 今天下午六点后你可以给我打电话。 21·cn·jy·com
You can’t make so much noise 你不能这么吵闹。
2、could 表请求和能力
（1）表示过去的“能力”
When I was young , I could climb any tree in the forest .
小时候森林里的任何树我都能爬上去。
I could drive a car before I left school .毕业前我就会开车。
(2) 表示委婉的请求
could 用来婉转地提出请求、想法、建议。
Could you show me the way
你能否告诉我怎么去？
Could you please speak a little louder
能否请你大一点声说？
(3) 表示惊讶
此时常用于否定句、疑问句，用来表示现在,与can 相当。
Could this be true 这可能是真的吗？
3、may 表请求和允许
(1) 征求对方的意见
may可以来征求对方的意见。
May I use your phone 我可以用你的电话吗？
May I leave this with you 我可以把这个放在你这里吗？
（2）表示同意
用于陈述句，表示同意别人做。
You may come if you wish 如果你想来，你就来。
4、must,should 表命令、建议
(1) must表示“必须”
must 表示“必须” 、“一定要”，多指现在或将来的情况，指说话人的主观语气，其否定形式表示“禁止”。 21世纪教育网
You must finish the project by Friday .
周五前你必须完成这个项目。
You must cut down on smoking . 你必须少抽些烟。
Cars mustn’t park in front of the entrance. 汽车一定不要停在入口处。
(2) should表示“应该”
表示义务、职责等，往往表示说话者的观点，意为“应该”。
You shouldn’t be so careless 你不应该这样粗心大意。

5、will 表示意愿和请求
(1) 表示意愿
自愿做或主动提出做什么，如意志、愿望或决心等。
I will help you if you meet with trouble 你若有麻烦我乐意帮你。
（2）表示请求
与you 连用表示请求或要求；would 比will 更客气、委婉。
Will you come this way , please 请走这边好吗？
Will you join us for a drink , Amber
安伯，和我们一起喝一杯， 好吗？
考点二 表推测和必要性的情态动词
1、can , could , may , might 与must 表推测
（1） can 表示“可能性”
此时表示“可能性”
此时表示推测，往往用于否定句或疑问句。
That can’t be Mary ----she’s in hospital .
那不可能是玛丽----她在住院。
There’s someone outside ----who can it be
有人在外面---可能会是谁呢？
（2） could 表示可能性
既可以表示过去的可能性，也可以表示现在的可能性，比can 的可能性要弱。
He said the news could be true .
他说消息可能是真的。 （表示过去的可能性）

有人在敲门，可能会是谁呢？（表示现在的可能性）
You could be right , I suppose 我想你可能是对的。
（3） may 表示可能性
may表示的可能性比can 小。
Anna may know my phone number 安娜可能知道我的电话号码。
He may come very soon .他或许很快就会来。
（4） might 表示可能性
此时可以指过去的可能性，也可指现在的可能性，指现在的可能性比may表示的可能性小。
He told me he might be late . 他告诉我他可能会晚会。
He might come tomorrow , but I am not quite sure . 21教育网
他明天可能来，但我拿不准。
（5） must表示推测
此时常译为“一定是”、“准是”，常指有根据的、比较有把握的推测。这种用法只能用于肯定句。
Jack and Dick must be twins . They look so much alike 杰克和迪兄准是双胞胎。 他们长得太像了。 2·1·c·n·j·y
二、need表示必要性和需要
（1）在表否定的句子中，表示“不必”，还可以说don’t have to .
You needn’t come if you are busy 如果忙，你就不必来了。
We needn’t hurry , for there’s plenty of time
我们不必着急，因为时间很充裕。
I don’t believe you need worry 我认为你没有必要担心。
She said I needn’t pay until May .
她说我到五月份才需要付款。
（2）在疑问句和肯定句中，表示“需要”
-----Need I come tomorrow
-----我明天需要来吗？
----No, you needn’t /Yes, you must 不，没必要。/是的， 我必须来。
易混易错
一、need 作情态动词和实义动词的用法区别
情态动词 实义动词
肯定句 If she wants anything , she need only ask 她想要什么东西，只要开一下口就行了。 You need to be careful 你得小心些。
否定句 You needn’t be so worried 你不必如此担心。 You don’t need to so worried 你不必如此担心 。
肯定疑问式 Need I say my telephone number again ？我需要再说一遍我的电话号码吗？ Do I need to say my telephone number again 我需要再说一遍我的电话号码吗？
否定疑问式 Needn’t he come again Need he not come again 他不必再来了吗？ Doesn’t he need to come again Does he not need to come again 他不必再来了吗？
2、must与have to 的区别
have to的意思接近must , 但must 更强调说话者的主观意愿。have to 强调客观上的必要性，常译为“不得不”。 don’t have to 译为“不必”。
I have to be off now. My mum is waiting for me .
我现在得走了，妈妈在等我。
The little boy has to do lots of housework , for his parents have been suffering from illness 小男孩只好做很多家务活，因为他父母一直都在患病。 【21·世纪·教育·网】
We must work hard at school 在学校我们必须努力学习。
3、can 和be able to 的区别
can 和be able to 表示能力时用法相同，can 只有一般现在时和一般过去时（could)，be able to 有现在时、过去时和将来时。如：

We will be able to come back next back.
我们下周能回来。
