Traveling with Parents
If I have the chance to go traveling, I would like to travel with my parents.
Don’t you think it’s safer for us to travel with our parents? With the help of our parents, we will not get lost. Our items won’t be stolen and we won’t be robbed by others, either. Besides, parents can look after us well, especially when we fall ill or get injured. What’s more, we could spend more time with our family. The better we get on with family, the more we love each other. Last but not least, parents could relax themselves by traveling as well.
Given the reasons above, I’d like to travel with my parents. I think traveling will be more wonderful with my parents.
Possible version two
Travelling with friends
If have the chance to go travelling, I would like to travel with my friends.
First, I don’t think there are so many chances for us teenagers to go travelling with friends.
The journey will be more interesting with friends, because we usually have the same hobbies and
interests. Second, we are free to choose the places of interest that we all like. Third, we have to
look after ourselves when we are on the way. So it’s good chance to develop our independence. Learning to be independent will help us when we go to the senior high school. What's more, it's not easy for us to see each other after graduating. We should cherish the chance and time we get together.
Given the reasons above, I' d like to travel with my friends. Who will you go travelling?

During my first two weeks at the University of California , Berkeley , I experienced some unexpected , funny , and sometimes embarrassing situations . Allow me to share some with you .
But first , let me give advice to other foreign students who plan to study in the United States . Check the weather before coming! I was very sure that California was sunny all year around so I left all my jackets and sweaters in Paris. It was a huge mistake ! It rained almost every day during the first week in Berkeley.
I have to say that I quickly forgot these unlucky events. Life in Berkeley is very pleasant and everything is so easy compared to Paris. For example , in only 24 hours I bought a mobile phone and made the lease(租约)agreement for a flat . What’s more, almost all the shops are open on Sunday , which is very practical for me.
The first thing that surprised me is that students may come late to class . They freely enter and leave the classroom many times during class, In France, students respect the teacher’s lesson , so they are never late and they leave the classroom only at the end of the class.
The local people in California are in general very nice, open and active, However, I am not totally used to their habits yet. Indeed, I was used to shaking my friends’ hands every day in France . During my second day at Berkeley, I shook the hand of one of my classmates whom I had met the day before and he told me “I think we already met!”
Another funny story happened during the first party I attended: A girl that I meet before came to hug me . I thought she wanted to kiss me like we usually do in France to say hello . So I kissed her and she seemed a little bit embarrassed.
I live a great experience at present, and I would just encourage any student to become a member in a program at UC, Berkeley.
35.According to the writer’s advice , before students study in America , they should____.
A. make a lease agreement for a flat
B. leave their warm clothes at home
C. pay attention to the local weather
D. prepare a phone as early as possible
36. When the writer’s classmate said “I think we already met !” , he meant _________.
A. he and the writer had known each other in France
B. Americans needn’t shake hands when they meet again
C. he was not used to shaking hands with others
D. the writer had forgotten about their last meeting
37.Which of the following is True?
A. The writer took the right clothes to California.
B. Students in California respect the teacher’s lesson and never be late for class.
C. The writer could not get used to living in California quickly.
D. In France people don’t always shake hands, in California people do.
38. What does the writer mainly want to tell us ?
A. His experience at UC , Berkeley.
B. The relationship between classmates.
C. His advice on studying abroad.
D. The difference in attending a class.
C
Getting electricity has always been a problem for the 173 people living in Nuevo Saposoa, a small village in Peru, South America. However, things went from bad to worse in March 2015 after heavy rains damaged(摧毁)the only power cables in the area. The villagers were forced to use oil lamps(灯), which are not only expensive but also dangerous because of the harmful gases(气体) they produce.
Luckily, researchers at the University of Technology(UT)in Lima, Peru heard about their problem and found a wonderful solution. They made a lamp that can be powered by plants and soil, both of which can be easily found in the Amazonian rainforest where the village lies. The lamp takes energy from a plant growing in a wooden box and uses it to light up an LED light bulb.
While that may sound amazing and even impossible, the science behind the ideas is quite simple. As plants create their food (using the sun’s energy, water and chemicals from the soil), they also produce waste which they return to the soil(土壤). Tiny animals in the soil eat this waste and they produce electrons – the building blocks of electrical energy. The UT team put special sticks inside the soil to get the energy and keep it in the lamp’s batteries for later use. The researchers say a single charge can power a 50-watt Led light for two hours - enough time for local villagers to get their evening work done.
The university gave ten Plant Lamps to the villagers of Nuevo Saposoa in October 2015. So far, they have been a huge success! Elmer Ramirez, the UT professor who invented the lamp, believes the Plant Lamp could help improve the lives of many people, especially small rainforest communities, 42% of whom have no electricity.

Should Children Be Allowed to Get Bored?
Children need time to stand and stare. They should be allowed to get bored so that they can develop their ability to be creative.
Children are expected by their parents to be reading a textbook all the time. However, research shows that it may hamper the development of their imagination, while boredom can give them opportunities to develop creativity.
Boredom is often linked with loneliness, but a writer named Meera Syal said boredom had helped her in developing her mind. She told researchers about her childhood. Having few things to do, Syal often talked with her neighbors. She also tried to do things like learning to bake cakes. “But importantly, I thought and wrote a lot, because I was bored,” Syal said. She kept diaries, filling her time with short stories and poems she made up.
Grayson Perry, an artist, grew up in a family with little money. He enjoyed himself by making up stories, drawing pictures for his stories and reading many books in the library. Bored but free, he spent hours looking out of the window, watching the changing clouds and seasons. Perry filled up his free time with what he liked. He became creative, because he could think freely.
Dr. Belton is an expert on the effects(影响) of emotions on learning. “Boredom could be an uncomfortable feeling,” she said. “But some young people cannot deal with that boredom creatively. So sometimes they may break a classroom window, or drive a car out for a mad race.”
Usually, when children have nothing to do, they would turn on the TV, the computer, or the phone. Their time on these things has increased, yet they need to have time to think about their experiences through play or just watching the world around them.
It is this kind of thinking that can inspire the imagination. On the other hand, the TV or phone may cut short the thinking process. That can be harmful to the development of creativity. “For developing the ability to be creative,” Dr. Belton advised, “perhaps we need to stand and stare, and stay off-line from time to time.”
43. What does the word “hamper” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Slow down. B. Keep up with. C. Speed up. D. Give rise to.
44. The writer talks about Syal and Perry to _______ .
A. stress the great differences between them
B. introduce a popular writer and a famous artist
C. suggest good ways of going through boredom
D. show effects of boredom on developing creativity
45. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Boredom provides children with space to think freely.
B. It’s much better for children to be busy than be bored.
C. Boredom helps children deal with difficulties properly.
D. It’s boring for children to think about their experiences.

W: I hear you have bought a new house in this neighborhood
M: Yes. I enjoy living here. The air is so fresh and your eyes are filled with green when you watch out from the window.
W: A nice environment could really make people feel comfortable.
M: Exactly. Every morning I do exercise with my wife in the garden and after supper I take my
daughter to have fun there.
W: That sounds nice. My neighborhood is not so good. What I could see from the window is just tall buildings.
M: Maybe you could grow some flowers to make your own house beautiful
W: That’s a good idea. Why not go to the flower market to get some with me?
M: Sure.Let's go.

Tom is a 16-year-old schoolboy. This year, he has got a weekend job for a newspaper company. Every Saturday morning, a truck drops off four bags of local newspapers. And Tom must hand out all the newspapers before Saturday night. He should make sure all the newspapers are put in the right letter boxes. But on rainy days, he should put newspapers in the milk boxes so that they won't get wet.
It's heavy work. Tom has to fix a light onto his bike because he often can't finish the task until after dark. Luckily, Tom can ride his bike around the streets most of the time because his working area is close to his home. Each week, he gets paid 11 dollars.
