Many students have hobbies, such as reading, painting, growing vegetables and looking after animals. Some hobbies are relaxing and others are active. Hobbies can make you grow as a person, develop your interests and help you learn new skills.

Back at school, David wrote a story about the life of a sixteen-year-old boy, and it came out as a book in 2010. Many young people love his book, and as a result, David has become a successful young writer.

4. as well as的用法
As well as the usual activities, such as sailing and climbing, there was a writing class.
as well as: “ 和; 及; 既…又; 除……以外还;” 并列连词, 用来连接并列成分。连接并列主语时, 谓语动词与前一主语保持一致。
eg. Mark was mainly interested in sport at school, playing rugby as well as soccer
在学校，马克主要对体育运动很感兴趣，他打橄榄球，也踢足球。
5. ask sb. to do sth.的用法

ask sb. to do sth.:要求某人做某事
eg.

6. as a result 的用法
Many young people love his book, and as a result, David has become a successful young writer.
as a result --- 介词短语, “作为结果”, 常用在有上下文(表示原因) 的情况下, 一般放句首, 后面加逗号。
eg. As a result, the bad thing has been turned into a good one.
结果坏事变成了好事。
7. spend...doing sth.的用法
