Free talk. Talk about how you have changed. (Appearance, Personality, Hobbies...)
By using: ...used to..., but now...
(设计说明:引导学生用句型used to..., but now...谈论自己在外貌,性格和爱好等方面的变化,有效地激活学生已有知识,起到以旧带新的目的。)
Before reading
Show the learning objectives.
While reading
1. Skimming
Look at the title: He Studies Harder Than He Used to
T: He?
Who is he?
How old is he?
Where is he from?
Ask students to skim the passage and find the answers.
Choose one student to answer the question.
T: How did you get the answer? S:...
T: Yeah, it comes from this sentence “Li Wei is a normal 15-year-old boy from the countryside”.
Stress the learning tip1: We can use a long sentence to connect some detailed information.
T: Look at the title again.
“...than he used to” infers that he used to have a lot of problems.
What problems do you think he might have?
Ask the students to predict. (various answers)
2. Scanning
Read the passage and complete the tasks.
Task 1: Put the sentences [A-D] in the correct places.
Ask the students to read carefully, finish off the task.
One student answers the question and explains the reason.
