T: Turn to page 43.The title is Philosophers of Ancient China. So What kind of person can be called a philosopher?
S1:A person who has ideas or beliefs about life experience and nature.
T:That’s right.So a “philosopher”is someone who thinks a lot about his “life experiences”and forms his “beliefs” .Our text is about three great philosophers in ancient China.Do you know their names? When did they live?
SS:They lived in Spring and Autumn or Warring period.
T:It’s a time when there are many…and they must have met deaths and injuries, so their beliefs must be affected by that.

(1) Skimming:

(2)Scanning and retelling.
T:Scan the information and underline the important words or phrases.Remember them and try to answer without looking at your text books.
【设计意图】 让学生借助幻灯片优势,可以让学生先查找信息并在书中标划出重点话题词汇和短语;让学生起来回答的时候让其不用看课本,凭记忆复现这些词汇短语,对于学生在语境中理解和记忆单词十分有好处,过程中老师解释一些词汇用法,如kindness—noun.form of kind, those of Confucius means the teachings of Confucius. “reign” means leave the position.”Be brought up by” means be fed and educated by”.We are brought up by our ____.influence n.v.—adj.influencial, equal-eqully等,通过查找信息,在理解意义基础上在语篇语境进行语言学习,及时语言应用实践,提取梳理、概括和整合信息.

【设计意图】通过讨论表达自己对学说或学说背后的文化价值的理解,让学生利用所学语言表达自己的观点和想法,及时进行语言实践和运用,并通过主题内容的拓展学习,深化对主题的理解,增强分析和评判能力,增强学生的文化认同。由于高一学生在英语表达能力上有限,词汇量欠缺,采取让学生填空方式,降低表达的难度,发现学生学习理解能力尚可,可是语言应用能力和表达能力薄弱,使用简单的词汇表达尚可,老师还要补充学习一些话题词汇如self-cultivition, treat..with respect,拓展对话题语言的学习。
Step3:Retelling
【设计意图】教师通过先示范引导,借助表格和关键词带领学生复述,然后通过个别提问和集体提问结合的方式检查复述,此环节让学生巩固上一阶段所学词汇短语句型和语篇知识,为后面的整合运用和迁移创新做好准备。

【设计意图】读写结合的教学设计让学生通过写作输出表达,让学生根据自己的学习基础和能力程度来选择完成。第一个层次作业较为基础是对所学课文内容的复述评价和应用实践,也是对人物介绍类文体写作的写作实践;第二个设计使学生结合生活体验提出的自己观点,是迁移创新。写作中发展学生发散思维和创新表达,两个设计让学生能够对主题进行课外延伸学习和思考,从课本到实际生活去理解和提出独特的个人见解,提升学生英语水平,推动语言综合运用能力形成。
