Step 1: leading in and warming up (2’)
At first, show a short video about a trip to
Mars。It aims to tell the students man is always
exploring some unknown places.They will face
failure or success.But there is a saying that
failure is the mother of success.
How does the failure become success? Lets learn
a true story about it.
Step two:Learning aims (1’)
1.To grasp the general idea of the story.
2.To develop their ability of retelling the story.
Step three: Guessing and discussion (2’)
Let the students read the advertisement and guess where they wanted to go.Show a picture of Ernest Shackleton and his introduction to the students.
T: Where did they want to go?
S: Antarctic or South Pole.
T: Would you reply to the advertisement or not?Can you tell us your reasons?

Ask the students to read the whole passage for the first time as quickly as they can and do the following exercise.
Look through the passage quickly and match the main idea with each part.
