文档简介

课件23张PPT。The book Pride and Prejudice mainly talks about money and marriage in Bennet’s family. The sentence “It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.” at the beginning of the book can be used to describe the main subject of this novel. The main heroine and hero of Pride and Prejudice were Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. They were introduced to each other at the ball. Elizabeth was a sharp-eyed, witted and tongued lady while Darcy was a wealthy, arrogant man who could not bear Mrs. Bennet and her sisters’attitude towards money and marriage. Therefore, at first, they were
distant from each other because of prejudice. Jane Bennet, the eldest daughter in Bennet’s family who was beautiful and Mr. Bingley, a single man of large fortune; four or five thousand a year, fell in love as soon as they met with each other for the first time at the ball. Bingley’s gentle characteristic left a deep impression on Jane while Bingley was greatly attracted by Jane’s charming appearance. However, when Jane found that Bingley left for London, she was badly hurt and in low spirit all day long. Mr. Collins, a man who was to inherit Longbourn and he was an ordained(任命) clergyman employed by the wealthy and patronizing(支援) Lady Catherine de Bourgh, proposed to Elizabeth but failed. He soon proposed to Elizabeth’s good friend — Charlotte. Elizabeth was shocked that Charlotte would accept it for she just considered that Mr. Collins had not too bad status and fortune. In the spring, Elizabeth joined Charlotte and her cousin at his parish in Kent. At this time, Elizabeth and Darcy met again accidentally. Having heard about Darcy’s scandal told by Wickham before, added that the reason why Bingley would leave Jane for London was because Darcy and Miss Bingley’s persuasion was known by Elizabeth this time, her prejudice to Darcy became unprecedentedly(空前地 ) strong. Meanwhile, Darcy found that he was not only fascinated by Elizabeth’s physical beauty but also by her sharp intellect and witty observations, as well as the fact that she was special unlike any other, for example, her mother and her sister. Then, Darcy proposed to Elizabeth, but he was refused flatly(断然地 )and directly by Elizabeth. Deeply shaken by Elizabeth’s vehemence(激烈 ) and accusations(谴责 ), Darcy wrote her a letter justifying(为…辩护 ) his actions. Thinking a lot, Elizabeth felt that she might really make a mistake. Her prejudice to Darcy was reduced very much until…Unfortunately, the news that Lydia, the youngest daughter, eloped with(与…私奔 ) Wickham spread over the whole country and seriously threatened the reputation of Bennet. A few days later, Elizabeth found that it was Darcy who helped her uncle tackled the problem and arranged a wedding for Lydia and Wickham finally, she moved to tears. Despite Lady Catherine de Bourgh, the aunt of Darcy said that she never accepted Elizabeth, Elizabeth refused to bow to it. Eventually, Elizabeth accepted Darcy’s proposal. When Mr. Bingley came back from London and he soon engaged with Jane Bennet.Lydia and Wickham moved from one place to another, leaving their debts for Jane and Elizabeth to pay off. Elizabeth’s two younger sisters-Mary and Kitty had a new concept about marriage under the guide of Elizabeth and Jane. Jane and Bingley moved to locate near the Darcys in Derbyshine in order to avoid Mrs. Bennet and her relations. Elizabeth was accepted by Lady Catherine finally. Darcy and Elizabeth enjoyed their new life from then on.Main CharactersMr and Mrs Bennet
