Teaching procedures:
Stage 1 Getting students ready for learning
Present some pictures of places of interest such as the Great Wall, the Great Pyramids, the Big Ben, the Disneyland, etc. Get the Ss to speak out the names and the countries where they lie.
Stage 2 Revision
Let the Ss discuss where to go if they have a chance to go abroad. Then encourage them to report.
Stage 3 Pre-listening
Step 1: Brainstorming: Present many pictures of cartoon characters and let the Ss speak out their names.
Step 2: Let the Ss read the statements in 3 on page 56. Encourage the Ss to guess the meanings and pronunciations of “film-maker, garage” by word -formation and picture. Then let the Ss listen to the tape and mark T/F. Listen twice and check the answers together. Finish 3.

Stage 5 Post-listening
Step 1: Let the Ss check the answers to 1b and 1c with their partners. Then, check the answers together. Finish 1b.
Step2: Let the Ss read 1a again and underline the passive voice, the new words and the useful phrases and sentences. Encourage the Ss to guess the pronunciations and meanings of “widely, throughout, from now on”. Write down some key points on the Bb.
Step 3: Let the Ss observe the answers in 1c and discuss in groups and then report their findings. Finish 1c.
Step4: Let the Ss study the example in 2a and try to complete the sentences, and find out how to change the active voice into the passive voice. Ask the Ss to guess the meaning of “foreigner” by “foreign + er ”. Check the answers. Finish 2a.
Step 5: Let the Ss play the game in groups of three by following the example in 2b. Make sure the Ss understand how to play the game.

Teaching procedures:
Stage 1 Getting students ready for learning Revision
Present a picture of the UN headquarter or a picture of Pan Jiwen. Discuss in groups and list the official languages used in UN. Encourage the students to speak them out.
Stage 2 Revision
Step 1: Let the Ss look at the pictures in 4 on page 58. First, guess the meanings and pronunciations of “divide, dig, lay”. Second, make a sentence with the given words on paper. Third, encourage groups to write one of their sentences on the Bb. Finally, let the Ss check the sentences.
Step2: Let the Ss read the sentences they have just written. Pay attention to the stress and weak form.
Stage 3 Pre-listening
Step 1: Present a medicine instruction in Japanese. Let the Ss guess what it is about. Move to 1a.
Step 2: Let the Ss look at the picture in 1a and predict by answering the teachers questions.
T: Look at the picture in 1a, what is the man doing?
Ss: He is ....(write down “pack-packing ”on the Bb and teach them. Let the Ss repeat “He is packing”)
T: What is he going to do? Guess!

Stage 4 While-listening
Let the Ss listen to 1a once and mark T/F in 1b. Then check the answers together.
Stage 5 Post-listening
Step 1: Let the Ss read 1a carefully and circle the difficult points including words, phrases and sentences. Go around the class and collect what the Ss have circled and write them down on the Bb. Then encourage the Ss to read them and guess the meanings.
Step 2: Let the Ss read 1a in roles to check if they can pronounce properly. Take notes and correct them after reading.
Step3: Let the Ss discuss in groups and make a list of the key points. Write them down on the Bb.
Step 4: Check the Ss’ HMK assigned yesterday. Encourage some groups to make a new conversation based on 1a.

Stage 1 Getting students ready for learning Revision
Prepare some words which are formed by word formation. Let the Ss discuss and guess the meaning of these words.

Stage 2 Revision
Encourage the Ss to read their letters to Li Ming. Choose “the Best Editor”.
Stage 3 Pre-reading
Let the Ss read the table in 1b to get the main idea of 1a.
Stage 4 While-reading

Stage 5 Post-reading
