Analysis on learners As Senior One students, in the past learning, they paid little attention to grammar, in which most of them are poor. Most students have difficulty in understanding Subject Clause, let alone apply subject clauses in translation and writing.
Analysis on the teaching material Subject Clause is an important part in Senior English. The learning material on P29(M3U4) is a good guide for students’ learning. But it’s necessary to add more practical exercises, such as translation, writing, to enhance students’ ability to apply Subject Clause into use. Meanwhile, to save time, Exe 3 on P29 will be omitted.
Teaching aims 1.Knowledge aim What’s Subject Clause and subordinating conjunctions of Subject Clause.
2. Ability aims 1) To rewrite sentences with Subject Clause. 2) To translate sentences with Subject Clause 3) To apply Subject Clause in writing

Step 1 Lead in (3m) Enjoy a song whose lyric contains several Subject Clause. Remind students to pay attention to Subject Clause in lyric. To prepare students for Subject Clause.
Step 2 Self-learning(10mins) Observe the underlined part in 5 sentences from reading passage(M3U4), and identify what part of speech the underlined part is used as. Underline subordinating conjunctions of each Subject Clause. Summarize the use of each subordinating conjunction. Share opinions with their partners. 1. Present 5 sentences which contain subject clause, and ask students to identify what part of speech the underlined part is used as. 2. Ask students to underline subordinating conjunctions of each Subject Clause and summarize their use. 1.To identify what’s Subject Clause. 2. To summarize the use of subordinating conjunctions in Subject Clause
Step 3 Application 1--Rewriting (5mins) Watch an example of rewriting a sentence with Subject Clause. Following the example, rewrite 5 sentences with Subject clause on P29 Exe2. 5 students present the answers on the blackboard. Give an example of rewriting a sentence with Subject clause. Ask students to rewrite 5 sentences with Subject clause on P29 Exe2. Invite 5 students to present the answers on the blackboard. Give comments when necessary. To get familiar with Subject clause. To rewrite sentences with Subject clause.
Step4 Application 2-translation (5mins) Translate 5 Chinese sentences into English with Subject Clause. Exchange answers to correct the translation with their partners. Present 5 Chinese sentences for students to translate into English with Subject Clause. Invite 5 students to present the answers on the blackboard. Give comments when necessary. 1. To get familiar with Subject clause. 2. To apply Subject Clause in translation.
Step 5 Application 3--Writing (15mins) Write a short passage. Try to use more Subject Clauses, if they can. Share their writing in a group of 4 , mark out the most suitable and beautiful subject clauses in each writing and work out a best writing of the group on a big piece of paper. Walk around the classroom to appreciate other group’s best writing. Present a guided writing situation for students to write a short passage. Remind students to try to use more Subject Clauses, if they can. Ask students to share their writing in a group of 4, mark out the most suitable and beautiful subject clauses in each writing and work out a best writing of the group on a big piece of paper. To guide students to walk around the classroom to appreciate other group’s best writing. To get familiar with Subject clause. To apply Subject Clause in writing. Step 4 Summing up (2mins) Summarize what’s Subject Clause and the use of each subordinating conjunction in Subject Clause. Guide students to summarize what’s Subject Clause and the use of each subordinating conjunction in Subject Clause. To sum up what’s been learnt in this class.
Step 5 Homework Review what has been learnt in this class. Polish self-writing by using more suitable and beautiful subject clauses.
