一、文本内容:
为响应十八大报告“开展全民阅读活动”的号召,实现“核心素养”培养目标(课标2017),解决现行教材文本阅读量与不断提高的课标阅读量要求之间的矛盾,在进行(外研版)《选修六》Module2 Fantasy literature教学时,教师删减了对学生来说阅读难度较大的The Cat That Vanished,把外研社《书虫》系列的《秘密花园》,作为本模块的拓展阅读材料,并制定了详细的阅读计划(开学前六周完成对文本的两遍阅读)。这一做法立足学生的长远发展,既对教材内容作了有益的补充又激发了学生的英语阅读兴趣,符合课标提出的“要求学生选择题材、风格、难易水平都适合自己的英文课外读物,并通过制定和实施课外阅读计划来不断提高自己的英语阅读水平”的要求。为高质量地、创造性地完成了本模块的学习任务提供了保障。”
本节课是一堂拓展阅读课,教学设计以活动为引领,以学生高阶思维品质培养为主线。文本选用美国女作家伯内特的The Secret Garden,它是一百年来畅销不衰的经典儿童小说,被一代代孩子们不断重复阅读,并在中国有多个图书版本。故事主要讲述了一个在霍乱中失去父母的印度小女孩,搬到英国后,重新获得幸福的故事。一场霍乱使性情怪戾的玛丽成了孤儿,她只得被送往远在英国的约克郡的密素斯特庄园和姨父克莱文先生一起生活。克莱文先生伤心妻子之死,变得阴郁古怪消沉遁世,他的庄园里有上百间被锁闭的房子,有十年不许任何人进入的秘密花园。玛丽意外地在知更鸟的帮助下找到这个秘密花园的大门和钥匙,并且,她还听到了一个神秘的哭声,吸引着她去探索庄园之谜。玛丽在迪肯的帮助下,使荒芜的花园重现生机。不久,被认为离死不远的庄园小主人科林也参加了进来。大自然的力量改变了一切,长年笼罩在阴霾之下的古老庄园及其主人也一同获得了新生。
二、教学目标:
通过本节课的学习,学生能够:
提取故事的线索,梳理小说的框架结构,概括整合Mary发现秘密花园的事实性信息;
通过分析Mary性格变化,推断故事发展的明线和暗线;
通过小组讨论和视频资料举例论证Mary对他人的影响,并表达自己的观点;
深度理解人物和秘密花园的象征意义,探究小说的主题意义,即爱与大自然的魔法力量,懂得人与人、人与自然和谐相处之道,心怀梦想与信念形成积极乐观的生活态度。
三、教学重、难点:
1. 学生在获得事实性信息的基础上提取故事线索,梳理小说结构和故事的明线和暗线;
2. 分析人物的象征意义,探究故事的主题意义。

【设计说明】 学生结合PPT分享前两次阅读收获,教师引入本节课阅读目标。

【设计说明】通过找故事线索,完成结构图引导学生了解小说写作的基本结构框架。帮助学生梳理主线,构建结构化知识,为知识的迁移做好铺垫。

【设计说明】通过任务一思维导图理清小主人公Mary的性格变化过程,引导学生发现故事的两条线索——明线和暗线,帮助学生更好地理解小说的主题。通过任务二、三小组讨论和观看影片活动的设置,引导学生加深对小说主人公Mary的理解以及其他人物在小说中的象征意义,提升学生的语言能力。

Tips:Finding out the overt plot and covert plot can help you have a better understanding of the theme of a short narrative fiction!

【设计说明】通过小组讨论秘密花园的意义、观看视频了解华裔美国女孩Nancy的读后感以及观看影片了解Mary的观点,教师引导学生进行主题意义的探讨帮助学生体会到爱与大自然的魔法力量,懂得人与人、人与自然和谐相处之道。鼓励学生心怀梦想与信念形成积极乐观的生活态度,关注学生文化品格的培养。
