I hired a man to help me repair an old farmhouse. His first day job made him mad ——a flat tire (轮胎) made him lose an hour of work, he cut his finger with a knife and his old truck refused to start. While I drove him home, he sat in silence.
On arriving, he invited me to meet his family. As we walked towards the front door, he stopped at a small tree and touched the tips of the branches with both hands. When opening the door, his face was full of smiles and he hugged his two children and gave his wife a kiss.
Afterwards, he walked with me to the car. We passed the tree. I was so curious that I asked him about what I had seen earlier. “Oh, that’s my trouble tree,” he replied. “I know I can’t help having troubles on the job, but one thing is for sure. Those troubles don’t belong to my children and wife. So I hang them in the tree every night and ask God to take care of them. Then in the morning, I pick them up again.”
“The funny thing is, ” he smiles, “when I come out to pick them up in the morning, there aren’t as many as those hung up the night before.”

When we look at animals we know that they are not humans. But how do our closest friends, dogs, see us? Do they know that we are humans? Or do they actually think that we are just strange looking dogs?
You may be surprised to learn that many kinds of animals do not notice such differences very much at all. For example, the cuckoo (布谷鸟) will lay its eggs in the nest of another bird. These birds will feed (喂食) the baby cuckoos, even though they look nothing like their real babies. This is because feeding little ones is quite natural for birds.
Other animals, it seems, will simply divide the world into animals they eat, and animals that eat them. When it comes to dogs, though, there is no simple answer to this question.
Sheepdogs leave their mothers when they are born. They grow up with sheep, and come to see them as their family. For this reason, they never attack (攻击) the sheep. Instead, they help protect them. They probably think the sheep are dogs too, but we can't be certain.
Similarly, if you raise a dog from birth, the way it sees the world will be different from a dog that grows up with other dogs. It will probably think it is the same kind of animal as you. This can even be true of humans. A Russian boy named lvan Mishukov born in 1998, was raised by dogs for two years and came to believe that he was a dog himself.

The way we spend our time can be divided into three “bottles”. These are the necessary tasks bottle, the voluntary (自愿的) tasks bottle and the happiness bottle.
Every day, we spend time filling the necessary tasks bottles with useful things, like making money, doing housework, buying food and paying bills. We then fill another bottle with voluntary tasks. These are things that we do for others, but we may not enjoy them. This bottle gets filled with tasks like taking children to activities, cooking family meals, and doing laundry. Those bottles are very important. If we don't fill them each day, our family won’t run properly.
However, we often forget to fill the third bottle—the happiness bottle that we fill with activities that make us happy. Is your happiness bottle sometimes empty at the end of the day? Between doing all the necessary and voluntary tasks, time flies by, and before we know it, it is time for bed. We all have days like that.
That is why each day we have to make an effort to fill our happiness bottle. I fill mine by going to the dance class. And I always leave classes more happily than when I enter. This week, I had the pleasure of taking part in a guitar practice in my neighborhood. We show our musical talent and practice music for charity. It was a time of fun, friendship and music-making. At the end of the evening, my happiness bottle was filled to top.
▲ Will your activities bring joy to your life? Or are the other two tasks eating up all your time? Try to find ways to achieve a balance between how you fill your three bottles. At the end of the day, hopefully we’ve done all we can to make sure that our happiness bottle is filled.

A. Going to work though it is raining heavily.
B. Buying a birthday gift for your good friend.
C. Having a yard sale to raise money for sick kids.

83. What does the underlined word “it” mean in the third paragraph?
A. We require enough time to fill the necessary tasks bottle.
B. Necessary and voluntary tasks are less important.
C. All the three bottles are filled to top at the end of the day.
D. We need time to do something to make ourselves happy.
84. How did the writer fill the happiness “bottle” this week?
A. By cooking meals for family. B. By going to the dance class.
C. By practicing music for charity. D. By listening to some nice music.
85. Which of the following is the best for “ ▲ ” in the last paragraph?
A. Make sure to fill all the three bottles. B. So consider how your time will be spent.

We humans are good at understanding others’ feelings from the sounds they make. 106. Similarly, we have no trouble knowing that a dog’s energetic bark is sound of joy.
In fact, the earlier studies have shown that we’re good at telling the differences of the barks of lonely, angry and happy dogs. Are there, then, similar features when we hear a baby’s laugh and a dog’s happy bark, or a man’s angry cough and a dog’s growl? To find out, a team of researchers did an online survey to know about how humans realize the feelings of human and dogs’ sound. 107. They listened to freely played sounds without any expressions, such as a woman cooing, a man breathing, a baby laughing, and a dog growling or barking. The researchers tried to find out sounds that could bring similar feelings accordingly. 108.
The researchers’ results showed a special relationship between how the listeners learned the feeling of each sound and its sound science. This way, shorter calls--whether humans or dogs--were regarded as happier than longer calls. 109. By following these same simple rules, they find out that it may be possible to develop easily understood man-made feelings in social robots. 110. We all hope that robots will become more and more attractive. Our technology will develop in a rapid way so that we can have a better life.
