1. What happened? 发生什么事了?
happen动词,“发生”,强调偶然性;常常与之相区别的是take place,也表示“发生”,但强调计划性。happen与take place的主语都只能是事情,不能是人,若要表达“某人发生了某事”则使用短语 “sth. happen to sb.”

2. Nobody was late, except me. 除了我,没有人迟到。
except介词,“除……之外”,不包含所除去的对象,常常强调整体与部分的关系;与之相区别的短语 as well as有时也被翻译为“除了……(还有);以及”,是包含了所罗列的对象的,起连接作用,注意区别。

修饰形容词、副词:a little + adj. / adv.原级/比较级 = a bit + adj. / adv.原级/比较级
修饰名词:a little + 不可数名词 = a bit of + 不可数名词

plan也可以做名词,是可数的,常用短语a / the plan for sth.“……的计划”。

拓展:very (很,非常), quiet (十分,相当), really (确实)修饰形容词、副词时只能是原级;

注意:1. 比较级或最高级都需要有一定的比较范围:比较级适用于两者之间的比较,两个团体无论成员多少都是为两者,而最高级适用于三者及以上范围之间的比较;
2. 形容词最高级作定语时前面必须有定冠词the,其它情况及副词最高级可以不用。
谚语:East or west, home is the best. 金窝银窝不如自己的狗窝。
