Step I. Show the learning goals.

Teaching and learning steps:
Step II. Review
Talk about the pictures using why and because.
Model:
T: What’s this ?
Ss: It’s a panda.
T: Do you like pandas?
Ss: Yes, I do.
T: Let’s see the pandas.
Ss: Why do you like pandas?
T: Because they’re cute.
Ask the students to ask and answer Like this:

B: Why do/don’t you like…

(设计意图:展示几种动物的图片,复习含有why提问和because回答的对话,并复习了已学过的描述动物的形容词,温故知新,并且承上启下,为本节课1a和对话的学习做铺垫。)
Step III. Play a guessing game.
The teacher shows the students some description words about animals on the screen and let students guess what animal it is according to the words given.

(设计意图:通过猜测游戏,激发学生的学习兴趣,再次复习了描述动物的形容词,并且承上启下,为本节课1a 的学习做铺垫。)
StepIV. Pre-listening activities
T: I think different animals have different looks and characters. What about the animals in 1a?
1a Match the description words with the animals. You can use some words more than once.

StepVI. Post-listening activities
1. Students work in pairs. Role –play the conversation.
2.Rewrite the conversation and fill in the blanks
(设计意图:通过对听力内容的改写,以漏词填空的形式,检查学生对听力内容的理解。改写后的复述更进一步加深了对听力内容的掌握并培养了学生的写作能力)
4. Pair work and group work.

T: Why do you like elephants?
S1: Because they’re cute . What animals do you like?
T: I like dogs because they’re friendly and smart.
First the students practice the dialogue in 1d in pairs.
Next ask students to work in pairs to make their own conversations.
Then ask some pairs to act out their conversations to the class.

Ask the students to sum up what they have learnt in this lesson.
Step IX. Emotional experience
Watch a video and help the students to talk about the things that they can do to help the animals.
T: We all like animals. Animals are our friends. Now many animals are in great danger. What should we do?
