1. 三峡大坝(The Three Gorges Dam)
三峡大坝位于湖北省宜昌市境内的三斗坪, 距下游葛洲坝水利枢纽工程38千米; 是目前世界最大的混凝土水利工程, 是三峡水电站的主体工程, 是三峡大坝旅游区的核心景观, 在三峡水库的东端。
三峡大坝工程包括主体建筑物及导流工程两部分, 全长约2 309米, 坝高185米, 工程总投资为954. 6亿元人民币, 于1994年12月14日正式动工修建, 2006年5月20日全线建成。三峡工程是迄今世界上综合效益最大的水利枢纽, 除创造巨大的防洪效益和航运效益外, 三峡大坝左右岸安装32台单机容量为70万千瓦的水轮发电机组, 安装2台5万千瓦的电源电站, 其2 250万千瓦的总装机容量为世界第一, 三峡大坝荣获世界纪录协会世界最大的水利枢纽工程世界纪录。2007年三峡大坝景区成为首批国家5A级旅游景区。
2. 巨人之路(The Giant’s Causeway)
“巨人之路”是爱尔兰著名旅游景点, 位于北爱尔兰贝尔法斯特西北约80千米处大西洋海岸, 由数万根大小均匀的玄武岩石柱聚集成一条绵延数千米的堤道, 被视为世界自然奇迹。1986年联合国教科文组织将其列为世界自然遗产。
传说远古时代爱尔兰巨人要与苏格兰巨人决斗, 于是开凿石柱, 填平海底, 铺成通向苏格兰的堤道, 后堤道被毁, 只剩下现在的一段残留。地质学家研究其中构造, 发现这道天然阶梯是由活火山不断喷发, 火山熔岩多次溢出结晶而成。经过海浪冲蚀, 石柱群在不同高度被截断, 便呈现出高低参差的石柱林地貌。在“巨人之路”海岸, 4万多根这种玄武岩石柱不规则地排列起来, 绵延几千米, 气势磅礴, 蔚为壮观。
