She is a little fatter than me. She is much taller than me. Her hair is a little curly and long. I think she is a pretty girl.
I still remember the day when she left. I stood in front of her house and saw her taking her bag to the car. I coughed uneasily(不安地咳嗽). Cicy turned toward me with a sad smile(微笑). “I am leaving for Hangzhou in ten minutes,” she said. “I know.” I was afraid to see her eyes so I did not look at her. I was so angry(生气的) at myself for being weak. I wanted to cry but I knew I must be brave(勇敢的). “I hope you can get better grades during the following term.” After seeing the sad look on my face, she quickly added(增加), “I’ll be back soon.” I tried to say something to thank her but I found I couldn’t say anything. It’s always better to keep quiet if you’re about to cry. “Oh, well...bye.” My tears nearly came out. So did hers.

On that Sunday afternoon, my friend and I sat on the beach chairs and watched our girls playing in the waves.
Suddenly, the girls all ran away. About fifty meters from us, the girls stood next to a middle-aged man and watched him fishing. He smiled at them. They ran back to us—all except my three-year-old daughter, Anna.
“Anna! Come here! Play with your friends!” I shouted, realizing that my speeches about not talking to strangers weren’t working. These days, many parents were told terrible stories about children being taken away by strangers. Good moms should teach their daughters that the world is a dangerous place. So I felt a little better when Anna finally ran towards me. Then she took up a shovel(铲子) and looked me in the eye, “I want to be with that man.”
She ran back, sat down next to him and started digging.
I watched my daughters, every few seconds looking quickly at my five-year-old one to make sure she hadn’t been swept out to the sea, then back to Anna to make sure she was safe.
A few seconds later, Anna ran back to us, waving something shiny.
It was a toy fish—yellow and rubber. This must be what he was using for fishing. And he’d given it to Anna. The three other girls saw it and ________.
“My friend gave me that fish!” Anna shouted loudly. The girls ran after each other with a yellow rubber fish flying through the air.
Suddenly, the man walked towards us with three more rubber fishes. He handed them to each of the girls. “Thank you,” they said quickly.
“Thank you,” I said, realizing that there are lessons for mothers to learn that only three-year-olds could teach them.

Do you like to solve problems for children? Listed below are probably three of the best answers.
I want to stay a kid forever. I love my birthdays, but I don’t want to be older.
—Haddie, Washington
The great thing about growing up is that it doesn’t happen all at once. Day after day, you’ll have new experiences which can be scary, but it can also be fun.
When you feel sad about growing up, try thinking of all the things you hope to happen when you’re older. It’s good to enjoy being a kid, but you should know that some adults say they still feel like kids!
I like fantasy books, and I’m thinking of writing one. But I don’t know how to begin. Please help!
—Liam, Pennsylvania
One idea is to list “top five” memories, such as your top five trips, funny things that happened at school and so on. Choose one of these for a story. Another idea is to imagine(设想) what book you’d like to write. As words pop into your mind, write them down. Then challenge(挑战) yourself to write a story using all of those words. Good luck!
Kids tease(嘲笑) me because I’m the slowest runner in my class. What can I do?
—Tiona, Oregon
We’re sorry to hear that. These kids may be looking for attention, and if you don’t give it to them, they may stop.
If that doesn’t work, you could try replying with kindness. Sometimes kind words are the best answer to them. If the teasing continues(持续), be sure to talk to someone who can help. If improving your running speed is something you’d like to work on, you could also ask your gym teacher for advice.
(B)16.What’s Haddie’s problem according to the passage?
A. She can’t begin a fantasy book.
B. She doesn’t want to grow up.
C. She can’t run fast in her class.

(B)17.Which of the following is TRUE from the passage?

(D)18.Which column(栏目) of a magazine is the passage probably from?
A. Cultural Thinking. B. Sports Club.
C. Fantastic Discovery. D. Growing Pains.

Friends are important for everyone, but it’s not easy to find friends. For most students, true friends are harder to find. If you have some good friends, you should do your best to keep your friendships(友谊).
It’s the easiest to make friends and keep friendships with people who have the similar interests or hobbies as you. You can spend happy and relaxing time together, and share your feelings about your interests. However, sometimes it’s not necessary for you to be the same. You may have different ideas and habits. Then trying to understand and respect(理解与尊重) each other seems to be more important.
The way you talk with your friends is important. When you talk with them, ask questions to help them start and keep talking. But don’t ask personal(私人的) questions, such as their parents’ jobs and salaries(薪水). These questions will make them feel unhappy. They may dislike talking with you and try to walk away. In that way, you may lose some friends and your friends will be fewer and fewer.
Another important thing is listening. Listen carefully to what your friend is talking about, and respond in the right way. It doesn’t have to be with words. Body language can be enough to show that you’re listening. Talk about your ideas after your friend finishes his talking.
In short, we should do our best to keep friendships as long as possible. Friends and friendships help make our life more wonderful.

Many teenagers(青少年) feel that the most important people in their lives are their friends. They believe that their family members don’t know them as well as their friends do. In large families, it is quite often for brothers and sisters to fight with each other and then they can only go to their friends for some ideas.
It is very important for teenagers to have one good friend or a group of friends. Even when they are not with their friends, they usually spend a lot of time talking among themselves on the phone. This communication(交际) is very important in children’s growing up, because friends can discuss(讨论) something. These things are difficult to say to their family members. However, parents often try to choose their children’s friends for them. Some parents may even stop their children from meeting their good friends. Have you ever thought of the following questions?

She is a little fatter than me. She is much taller than me. Her hair is a little curly and long. I think she is a pretty girl.
I still remember the day when she left. I stood in front of her house and saw her taking her bag to the car. I coughed uneasily(不安地咳嗽). Cicy turned toward me with a sad smile(微笑). “I am leaving for Hangzhou in ten minutes,” she said. “I know.” I was afraid to see her eyes so I did not look at her.

( )16.What’s Haddie’s problem according to the passage?
A. She can’t begin a fantasy book.
B. She doesn’t want to grow up.
C. She can’t run fast in her class.
D. She is laughed at by many kids.

( )18.Which column(栏目) of a magazine is the passage probably from?
