There are 5steps in the teaching procedure.
Step1 Culture corner
Last year, I had an opportunity to take part in an educational exchange in America. So first, I will talk something about my feelings when I was in America . Then show some pictures taken in America. Second, I will ask some of the students who took part in this project to talk about their feelings when they were in America. If they have ever met culture shock and how did they deal with it?
The purpose of this step is to create a better English learning environment for the students and to help the students to be interested in this English lesson.
Step2 Reading
Ask the students to read the passage . To learn what the culture shock is and how to deal with it. And then answer the questions.
The step 2 purposes to help the students to have a better understanding about the culture shock.
Step 3 Listening
1. Before playing the tape for the students, ask the students to read the introduction on page 70 and the text has been given. Tell them the importance of looking through the text before listening. Reading the text can help them to know the topic and main idea. It can also help the students to learn the missing information. So they can answer the questions quickly and correctly.
2. Then play the tape for the students twice. After finishing the Exercise A, ask the students to read the notes. Grasp the meaning of the text clearly to prepare for Exercise B.
3. Play the tape for the third time. Ask the students to finish Exercise B.
4. Ask the students to practise the dialogue in pairs. Then act it out.
5. According to Exercise A and Exercise B, ask the students to retell the matters needing attention in this educational exchange in groups.
Eg: We will fly to London on Saturday, the 6th of November. We must arrive at the airport before 6 a.m. That day. For two weeks in London, we’re going to experience life and learn about British culture. WE’re going to stay with our host families. On weekdays, we’re going to have classes at Woodpark School. During the visit, we should be polite and respect local culture. We should also remember to bring a camera with us, because we’re going to write a report on the educational exchange when we come back.
The step 3 purpose is to improve the students’ listening and spoken abilities.
