Module 4 Unit 1 Thanksgiving is my favourite festival.
I Analysis of teaching material:
The status and function of this lesson
The teaching material talks about Simon’s favourite festival—Thanksgiving and what they normally do on Thanksgiving.
This lesson lets students learn an important festival in the US and how to describe the festivals they like.

II Teaching objectives
According to meet the requirements of the “New curriculum standard”, in order to complete the basic teaching task, and effectively develop the students’ self-confidence, innovative spirit and the ability of cooperation and mutual assistance, I establish the following objectives:
2.1 Language knowledge and skills:
By the end of this lesson: Students will be familiar with the usages of “What do you do on + festival, say ‘thank you’ for, have a special meal, …is my favourite festival” and practice the sentences to describe the festivals they like.
2.2 Cultural awareness:
By learning about American festivals, students learn more about Western culture, and expanding their horizons. By the end of this lesson, students will have a deeper knowledge of different festival habits in different cultures.

III Learning strategies:
a) Autonomous learning: students are required to adopt the way of autonomous learning; they can talk using a full and logical sentence.
b) Cooperative learning: students can discuss and exchange ideas in English.

IV Teaching focus
How to talk about festivals with others and give their ideas on different cultures.

V The analysis of students
Because many students know little about American festival cultures, by the end of this lesson, they will have a deeper knowledge of American culture and learn how to talk about festivals.

VI Teaching methods
The task-based teaching method and communicative teaching method let the students take active roles in class, and practice how to use English to talk about festivals.

VIII Teaching procedures:
Leading-in: (3 minutes)
(1) Use some pictures to review the festivals students learned before, and the teacher leads students to talk something, especially what they do in those festivals.
(2) Listening practice: Filling in the blanks.
Presentation: (12 minutes)
(3) Listening for the first time and think: What is Simon’s favourite festival?
(4) Watch a video and think about: When is Thanksgiving? (in November)
(5) Listening for the second time, this time, when students are listening, they should underline the sentences to answer the question: What do they do on Thanksgiving?
Practice: (13 minutes)
(6) According to the content of the dialogue, the teacher helps students to finish a form in order to tease out the detailed information of the dialogue.
(7) Read and act out the main sentences about the detailed information of the dialogue.
(8) Listen to Simon’s poem and write a poem together.
Product: (12 minutes)
(9) Role-play.
(8) Summarize the writing point (When, What, How).
(9) The teacher gives students a writing model and lets students discuss their favourite festivals with their partners.
(10) Writing time (the teacher can spare some time to let students show their compositions).
Home work: Listen and read today’s lesson.
