It's true that many dads in the wild aren't interested in parenting, but there are some that work pretty hard to give their little ones a good start. Maybe one of these dads will make you remember your own dad!
The male giant water bug doesn’t seem to mind a heavy load on his back for his kids. The female puts about 100 to 150 eggs on the back of the male, and then she leaves. Once the female is gone, the male has to look after the eggs. It usually takes one to two weeks for the eggs to hatch. The father giant water bug jumps around to make sure the growing eggs get enough air and water. All this time he can't fly because of the weight of the eggs growing rapidly on his back.
Now let's turn to the male stickleback fish. When the mother leaves after laying her eggs, the father tends his young. If the young fish go too far away, their father helps with their safe return by carrying them back in his mouth. The male stickleback looks after all his young — as many as 100 — until they can live on their own.
A similar example can be found in emperor penguins living in cold areas. The male emperor penguin goes without food while looking after his egg until it hatches. For about 62 to 67 days, the egg stays on top of the father's feet, in very cold temperatures that drop down to -39℃. As a result, the father may lose nearly 50 percent of his body weight while waiting for his baby penguin to be born!21.During the hatching period, the male emperor penguin ________.
A. is unable to eat B. is fed by the female
C. tries to lose some weightD. can't stand the cold weather
22.What do we know about the giantwater bug?
A. It is unable to fly. B. The eggs grow on the father's back.
C. The male must keep still to hatch the eggs.
D. The female looks after her eggs together with the male.
23.What is the best title for the text?
A. Mr. Moms in the Wild B. Animals Do Have Feelings
C. Nature Loves Us like Our Dad D. Childbirth in the Animal Kingdom
B
You say you want to turn an acquaintanceship into something more, but I'm not sure if that means you're willing to accept him in the hallway and create many babies immediately, or if you want to become better friends before you move on to the dating part. If it's the latter, try to hang out with him in a group setting; having other people there should reduce the awkwardness among the group, so the two of you aren't just constantly walking into each other and apologizing and falling down the stairs.
If you're comfortable with dating him right now, and you just don't know where to begin, the most important thing is going forward with the caution of a turtle. Do not just stomp up to him and ask him out. To a terribly awkward guy, unexpectedly asking him if he wants to go out in person, is exactly like kicking down his bedroom door and shouting "Nice underpants, idiot", in that he will just scream and hide from you, even if he does want to go out, and they are nice underpants. To avoid this kind of pressure, I'd suggest being cutesy(讨人喜爱的) or flirty with him in person, to lay the groundwork, and then actually asking him out via text or online. Of course, his response will probably be "gbnml…", because he will have passed out onto his keyboard in disbelief, but it's still better than the alternative. If you can't text him or do this online, leave him a note or something; any approach that means he doesn't have to deliver his answer to the actual face of an alive human girl.
24. What do the underlined words "the latter" refer to in Para 1?
A.
Making better friends before dating.
B.
Producing some babies.
C.
Making friends with someone.
D.
Starting a family before dating.
25. What should you do to avoid the awkwardness when you meet someone?
A.
Constantly walk.
B.
Fall down the stairs.
C.
Be with him in a group setting.
D.
Apologize to each other.
26. What does the writer think is the best way to date the guy?
A.
To send him messages using mobile phones or online to invite him.
B.
To praise his underpants and invite him at the same time.
C.
To go to him directly and invite him in person.
D.
To invite him by kicking down his bedroom.
27. Who is this passage intended for?
A.
A married woman.
B.
A married man.
C.
An unmarried girl.
D.
An unmarried boy.
C
There are thousands of products of all colors and shapes in a supermarket, making you believe that they are worth a try. How? Packaging is the silent but persuading salesman .
There on the shelves, each bottle, can, box, and jar has been carefully designed and measured to speak to the inner self of the consumer, so that is buying not only a product but also his belief in life. Scientists have studied consumer behavior recently and found that the look of the package has a great effect on the “quality” of the product and on how well it sells, because “Consumers generally cannot tell between a product and its package. Many products are packages and many packages are products,” as Louis Cheskin, the first social scientist studying consumers’ feeling for packaging, noticed.
Colors are one of the best tools in packaging. Studies of eye movement have shown that colors draw human attention quickly. Take V8 for example. For many years, the bright red color of tomatoes and carrots on the thin bottle makes you feel that it is very good for your body. And the word “green” today can keep food prices going up.
Shapes are another attraction. Circles often suggest happiness and peacefulness, because these shapes are pleasing to both the eye and the heart. That’s why the round yellow M signs of McDonald’s are inviting to both young and old.
This new consumer response (反应) to the colors and shapes of packages reminds producers and sellers that people buy to satisfy both body and soul.
28. According to the passage, ________ seems to be able to persuade a consumer to buy the product.A. the pleasing color of the package
B. the special taste of the product
C. the strange shape of the package
D. the belief in the product29. If a package or a product is round in shape, it can ________. A. bring excitement to the consumers
B. attract the consumers’ attention
C. catch the eye movement of the consumers
D. produce a happy and peaceful feeling30. “And the word ‘green’ today can keep food prices going up.” This sentence suggests that
consumers today are ________.
A. starting to notice the importance of new food
B. enjoying the beauty of nature more than before
C. beginning to like green vegetables
D. paying more attention to their health
31. It can be inferred from the passage that V8 is a kind of ________. A. vegetable dish B. healthy juice C. iced drink D. red vegetable
D
It was a winter morning, just a couple of weeks before Christmas 2005. While most people were warming up their cars, Trevor, my husband, had to get up early to ride his bike four kilometers away from home to work. On arrival, he parked his bike outside the back door as he usually does. After putting in 10 hours of labor, he returned to find his bike gone.
The bike, a black Kona 18 speed, was our only transport. Trevor used it to get to work, putting in 60-hour weeks to support his young family. And the bike was also used to get groceries(食品杂货),saving us from having to walk long distances from where we live.
I was so sad that someone would steal our bike that I wrote to the newspaper and told them our story. Shortly after that, several people in our area offered to help. One wonderful stranger even bought a bike, then called my husband to pick it up. Once again my husband had a way to get to and from his job. It really is an honor that a complete stranger would go out of their way for someone they have never met before.
People say that a smile can be passed from one person to another, but acts of kindness from strangers are even more so. This experience has had a spreading effect in our lives because it strengthened our faith in humanity(人性)as a whole. And it has influenced(影响)us to be more mindful of ways we, too, can share with others. No matter how big or how small, an act of kindness shows that someone cares. And the results can be everlasting.
32.Why was the bike so important to the couple?
A. They used it for work and daily life. B. It was their only possession.
C. The man’s job was bike racing. D. It was a nice Kona 18 speed.
33.We can infer from the text that ____________.
A. the couple worked 60 hours a week. B. people were busy before Christmas
C. life was hard for the young family. D. the stranger brought over the bike
34.How did people get to know the couple’s problem?
A. From radio broadcasts. B. From TV news.
C. From a newspaper. D. From a stranger.
35.What do the couple learn from their experience?
A. Strangers are usually of little help. B. An act of kindness can mean a lot.
C. News reports make people famous. D. One should take care of their bike.

Although many Chinese students say that their knowledge of English grammar is good, most would admit that their spoken English is poor. Whenever I speak to a Chinese student, they always say,“ My spoken English is poor.”36.____ I would like to suggest that there may be some reasons for their problems with spoken English.
First, they fail to find suitable words to express themselves due to a limited vocabulary. 37.__. However, you can speak with a limited vocabulary, if you choose a positive attitude. Others will follow you as long as you use the words that you know.
38.____. Sometimes they make mistakes when they are speaking because they are shy and nervous. Yet students should remember that their goal should be FLUENCY NOT ACCURACY. Your aim in writing is to be accurate following the rules for grammar and using the right words and spelling them correctly. However, in speaking your aim is fluency. You want to get your message across, to talk to someone in English, as quickly and as well as you can, even though sometimes you may use a wrong word or tense, but it doesn’t matter.39.____.
The third reason is that not enough attention is paid to listening. You have one mouth but two ears! All that hearing is necessary for you to start speaking.
Fourth, most Chinese students are reactive rather than proactive language learners. Instead of actively seeking out opportunities to improve their spoken English they passively wait for speaking opportunities to come to them and wonder why their English always remains poor.40._
A.The person you are speaking to will understand you and make allowances for any mistakes he hears.
B.They may try to avoid making similar mistakes next time.
C.Obviously the better answer is to expand their vocabulary.
D.If you have this proactive outlook, then you will see English opportunities wherever you go.
E.However, their spoken English does not have to remain “poor”
F.Second, they are afraid of making mistakes.
G.The second reason lies in the reluctance of using what has just been learned.

Dear sir,
I am writing to complain about one of your bus-drivers’ improper and rude behaviors.
Last Sunday, when I was taking the No. 102 bus, the driver not only kept on talking with a man loudly but also drove very fast. So some passengers advised him to concentrate on driving, but he didn’t pay any attention. What’s worse, he drove even faster. Then other passengers couldn’t bear it, asking the driver to keep the passengers’ safety in mind. But the driver stopped the bus so suddenly that all the passengers nearly lost their balance. However, he didn’t apologize but said rudely “It’s none of your business.”
I sincerely hope you can investigate this incident and proper measures should be taken to prevent such an incident happening again.
Sincerely yours,
Li Hua
