Thang-ga(唐卡) is a special kind of painting. It was found only in Tibet, China. It started from the Tang dynasty(唐朝). Thang-ga paintings show Tibetan people's lives. In recent years, Thang-ga paintings have caught the public's attention. At the same time, the Chinese government has also tried hard to protect the art.
The colors of Thang-ga paintings look wonderful and special. Because of the special environment of Tibet and the excellent skills of artists, the paints(颜料) used in Thang-ga paintings are different from other paints. They were made from minerals like gold and silver, as well as some plants. The paints were made by hand and the beautiful colors could last(持续) for hundreds of years.
However, with the development of technology, people now use cheaper and easily-made chemicals to make Thang-ga paints. The traditional paints used in Thang-ga paintings took a lot of work and they were made in many secret ways. Later people stopped making the paints and forgot about them. So the skills needed to make them were almost lost. The traditional Thang-ga paintings are difficult to find now.

I have tried to write a ghost story that won't make you unhappy with yourselves, with each other, with the seasons, or with me. I hope it haunts your houses pleasantly.
Charles Dickens
One Christmas Eve, old Scrooge and Bob were working busily in his office. It was a cold, foggy day. The fog was so thick that the houses opposite were like ghosts. It was only three o'clock in the afternoon, but it was already quite dark.

“Merry Christmas, Uncle! God bless you!” cried a happy voice. It was Scrooge's nephew.
“Bah!” said Scrooge. “Humbug(骗人的话)!”
“Christmas is a humbug? Surely you don't mean that, Uncle.” said his nephew.
“I do,” said Scrooge. “Merry Christmas! What reason have you got to be merry? You're poor.”
“OK, then,” replied the nephew cheerfully. “What reason have you got to be sad? You are rich. Don't be angry, Uncle!” said his nephew.
“What else can I be?” answered the uncle, “I live in a world of fools! Merry Christmas! What's Christmas time to you? It's a time for paying bills without money. It's a time for finding yourself a year older, but not richer. Everyone who goes around saying ‘Merry Christmas’ should have his tongue cut out. Yes, he should!”
“Uncle! Please don't say that!” said the nephew. “I've always thought of Christmas time as a good time, a kind, and a charitable, happy time. And so, Uncle, Christmas has never put any gold or silver in my pocket, but I think it has done me good. And it will do me good. And I say, God bless it!”
Bob, standing in the corner of the room, applauded(鼓掌). He realized his mistake very soon, and went quickly back to his work, but Scrooge had heard him.
“One more sound from you, Bob Cratchit,” said Scrooge, “and you'll celebrate Christmas by losing your job!”
“Don't be angry with him, Uncle. Come and have dinner with us tomorrow.”
“No.” said Scrooge.
“I'm sorry you don't want to celebrate Christmas. But I do. So a Merry Christmas, Uncle!”
“Good afternoon!” said Scrooge.
“And a Happy New Year!” said his nephew.

Let me tell you about a young boy who made a model car all on his own. The boy is me, six years ago when I was just 11. The car was small and simple, but in my imagination it was a high-speed racing car, speeding along the race road.
It was during the school summer holidays and workmen were building a new driveway and garage(车库) beside our house. It meant to add something new to our home. When I watched the workmen, I came up with an idea—I would build a car to drive into the garage in celebration of it. I told my mother and began with my plans. But I couldn't find the right things for making the car, so I gave up and sadly spent several days doing nothing. My mother noticed that I had stopped working and asked me why. I explained and she suggested that maybe I should change my plan to fix the things I had, rather than give up.
And that's just what I did. I found small pieces of wood in my father's workshop and made my car from anything that was lying around the house. When I found a small engine(发动机) from one of my old model planes, I added that. The power came from a battery(电池) I found in a box.
By the time the garage was finished, so was my car. I called my family together outside the house, started the engine and put the car on the driveway. It was fast and I had to run to the garage to prevent it from hitting the new door. My family began to cheer and I smiled proudly. Thanks to my mother I learned the value of continuing to do things, especially something difficult. Soon I was making plans for my next project: a robot!

Dragons can be friendly or fierce(凶狠的); they can bring good luck or cause death, but one thing is sure—people talk about them almost everywhere in the world. For a creature that doesn't actually exist, that's quite something.
In Chinese culture, dragons are generous and wise, although they can be unpredictable(难以预料的). The dragon was closely connected to the royal family: the emperor's robes(礼袍) have a symbol of a gold dragon with five claws. Other members of the royal family were allowed to wear dragon symbols, too, but with fewer claws and of a different color. According to popular belief, if you were born in the year of the dragon, you are intelligent, brave, and a__natural__leader.
But in the west, dragons had a different reputation(名声). The very first text in English, the Anglo-Saxon poem Beowulf, tells the story of a Scandinavian hero, Beowulf, who fights and kills a dangerous dragon but he himself is killed in the fight. However, across the border in Wales, the red dragon which appears on the Welsh flag is a positive symbol, indicating strength and a sense of national identity.
Why should the dragon have a different character in different parts of the world? Some experts believe it is due to the animals that the myths grew out of. In the west, the idea of the dragon probably came from the snake—an animal which people hated and were afraid of. But in China, the idea of the dragon may have come from the alligator—a shy animal which lives in rivers, but which is usually only seen when there is plenty of water—a good sign for agriculture(农业). So the Chinese dragon was a bringer of good fortune.
