Enjoying Dinner with Friends in America
Americans, like many people elsewhere in the world, like to invite friends to their homes for an evening of food, drink and conversation. Formal dinners, in fine homes and hotels in the United States are much the same as formal dinners anywhere in the world. But as most people in the United States have no servants (佣人) , their dinner parties at home are mostly informal. Guests may sit down at a table, or, as many new small homes have no separate (单独的) dining room or very small dining space, guests can also serve themselves and eat in the living room, holding their plates on their knees.A more enjoyable form of entertainment is the picnic. Americans are great picnickers, and almost every family has a picnic basket. Summer invitations are often for a picnic at a park or in the open countryside. Unless hamburgers or hot dogs are cooked over a fire, picnic food is usually cold sandwiches, salads, potato chips, etc. Watermelon is a favourite dessert, followed very often by baseball for the young and active, and naps (打盹) for the weary (疲惫的; 困乏的).

People know the dangers of fires. It's good for a family to learn how to prepare for a fire. Here are some suggestions:
Put a smoke alarm in the house. Smoke from a fire causes the alarm to go off. The alarm makes a loud sound. The sound tells everyone to leave the house at once.
Make escape(逃跑) plans. They should know all the ways out of the house. If there is a fire, everyone follows the plan to get out. Part of the plan is to check all the windows to make sure they can be opened easily.
Buy fire extinguishers in the house. Everyone in the family should know how to use them.
Practise for a fire. They do fire practice because they teach children about fire safety.
Everyone in the family should know the following fire rules:
●Don't open a hot door! The fire can grow more quickly if you open the door.
●Stay close to the floor! Smoke can be more dangerous than fire. The best air is near the floor because smoke rises.
●What will you do if your hair or clothes start to burn? First, stop!
Don't run! The fire burns faster because of more air, Drop! Fall to the floor. Then roll(滚动)! Turning over and over will make the fire go out. Put a blanket(毯子) around you to keep air away from the fire that may still be on you.

When you are in China, you must walk on the right. It's just opposite to England. You can just say hello to others when you meet them instead of shaking hands often. When you have meals, you use chopsticks instead of knives and forks. The host often asks you to eat more food. If you're full, you needn't eat up the food on the plate. After eating, the host often makes tea for you. When you leave the house, you should say goodbye to the host politely.
