Ever feel like no one really understands you? Well, "Pepper" could be about to change all that. That's because Pepper is the world's first robot with the ability to read feelings.
Pepper doesn't look much like its name. Standing under four-feet tall with a tablet computer in its chest (胸部), it has human-like hands and a mermaid-like body. Pepper is able to communicate about everything from the weather, to more serious topics like the latest information in the stock(股票) markets. Yet the great difference is that Pepper can make eye contact when meeting people.
The creators believe that robots like Pepper will make a great difference to our daily lives as the PC, Internet and mobile phones did. Pepper can understand people's feelings, then react to people-- making jokes, dancing and even rapping (in Japanese)
The creators hope robots will play roles in education, health care and entertainment (娱乐), but their primary goal isn't to work in the industry like present robots. They want Pepper to work at the home or store to provide fun and entertainment.
Pepper is designed to be a family robot. It is powered by love inside a family. It can not only make jokes and make people laugh but also help people in natural disasters and comfort those people who are sad or lonely, encourage them or make them laugh.
Pepper goes on sale in Japan for around US$2,000 in February 2015. For now, several Peppers are at Softbank stores in Tokyo for people to visit. The creators say before Pepper is on sale, they want the robots to get more knowledge and get on better with humans.
The creators expect Pepper will be sold overseas. After all, Pepper is quite the polyglot, speaking 17 languages.

Schools are being asked to go back to ‘chalk and talk’ teaching that was once popular in Britain --- in order to achieve the success the traditional methods now have in China.
Education Minister Nick Gibb said having a teacher speak to the class as a whole from the front was more useful than children working alone – this way which has played a lead role in schools over the past 40 years.
Mr. Gibb’s suggestion, which will make the educational experts angry, follows a Government plan in which more than 70 math teachers from England went to Shanghai to study the teaching ways of China.
The researchers have found that children in China achieve marks in math up to 30 per cent higher than English pupils of the same age.
In ‘whole class’ teaching, which was common in this country until the 1950s, the teacher gives a lesson to all the pupils together by using a blackboard, or some teaching aids, while testing the children with questions.
Mr. Gibb told The Mail on Sunday, ‘I would like to see schools across the country use whole class teaching methods, especially in maths and science. Research shows it is more useful than other methods that focus (集中)more on personal learning.’
He said Shanghai schools did the best in the international league competition, with 15-year-old students there three years ahead of the same agers in England in maths.
Another Professor Alan Smithers also added: ‘English education paid more attention to personal learning in recent years, which insisted that it was better for children to learn by themselves. The trouble with the popular methods in England is that the children are left to themselves including chatting to their friends. It is a waste of time and resources (资源).’
