Daniella Wride was brushing her daughter’s long brown hair when she noticed that even with a light touch, bunches of it were coming out. That was January 1, 2017. Within 20 days, seven-year-old Gianessa Wride’s hair and eyebrows were completely gone, and her doctor said they would never grow back. Gianessa had become one of the 6.8 million Americans with alopecia(秃头症), a disease that causes hair loss.
Alopecia isn’t painful, but for kids who suffer from it, the pain comes from standing out from the crowd. For the most part, the students in Gianessa’s class in Salem, Utah, were understanding. But the occasional tease of “baldy” made her feel being abandoned. “I did not want her to not feel beautiful,” her mother told Today. They tried covering her baldness, but wigs were uncomfortable and scarves wouldn’t stay on.
Then the school announced its “Crazy Hair Day” competition in April, and Daniella and Gianessa decided that rather than hiding Gianessa’s baldness under scarves or a wig, they would celebrate it. Daniella bought scrapbook-slicker jewels and decorated her daughter’s head with flower-like designs, ‘ They just fit her personality,” Daniella told CNN. “ She never feels tired and is so energetic.”
On the morning of the competition, Gianessa was nervous. Would her friends think it was funny or very strange? In fact, she had nothing to fear. Bedazzled Gianessa was a hit---and the winner of the crazy-hair competition. Gianessa is now glad she dared to go bare.” She told people, “but now I love being bald. I can do things to my head that other kids can’t. I’m thinking now it might be fun to decorate my head with some shiny butterflies and flowers.”

China is warning about the possible effects of a trade war with the United States.
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang spoke to news reporters earlier this week in Beijing. He talked about reasons for the two countries to have good relations. He said he was?optimistic?about ties, but warned that a trade war would hurt American businesses.
“We do not want to see any trade war breaking out between the two countries,” Li said.“That would not make our trade fairer and would harm both sides. No matter what?bump?the China-U.S. relationship hits, our hope on the Chinese side is that it will continue to move forward in a positive direction.”
The Global Times (环球时报)agreed with Li that American businesses would suffer if there was a trade war.“Trump’s position as U.S. president would not protect his businesses from a trade war with China.”It said his businesses would be harmed just as any other American company would be if relations worsened.

Li told reporters that China would continue to open up its economy. He said American companies and others were already benefiting.

How to bring nature to your school--in a big way!
Interested in building a schoolyard habitat(栖息地)? 36
Gather a Team
Students can do a lot on their own, but you’ll need adults for a project this big. Get teachers, parents, and even the headmaster interested. They know more about your school’s yard than anyone else and can give you lots of help. 37
38
Which part of the schoolyard can you turn into a habitat? Is there an unused corner of the playground? You’ll need to make a map of the area showing what’s there now. Then you can figure out how you want to change it. For that, you need a plan.
Plan a Habitat
39
Food: Plant flowers, bushes, and trees. These provide food for birds ,insects and small animals. Where possible, stick with native plants—wild plants that grow naturally in your area. They need less care, which means less work for you.
Water: A small pond, birdbath, or even a shallow dish of clean water in the ground will attract birds.
Shelter: Bushes and trees make great escapes for birds. Tall grass and “weeds” are home to grasshoppers, garter snakes, and some ground-nesting birds.
Places to Raise Young: Butterflies need special plants to lay their eggs on. Frogs lay eggs only in shallow water. Many birds use birdhouses; others nest in trees and bushes. 40
A. Map Your Site
B. Build Your Design
C. Here’s how to get started.
D. So, set a date and get growing.
E. Here’s what you’ll need to make your area attractive to wildlife.
F. In fact, nearly all your shelters may become homes for wild young.
G. Also, ask around your neighborhood or others willing to give advice

Secondhand goods
Nowadays there are more and more secondhand goods in the market. Why do so many people like to buy secondhand goods? The following reason can account as this phenomenon. After all, secondhand goods are more cheaper than new ones. This enables those people who don't have much money to buy the things they wanted. Moreover, secondhand goods make possible for people to make good use of the goods which may be useless in our hands. Besides, the Internet provides a more convenient and quick trading platform for secondhand goods. In the word, I think the secondhand goods exchange is a good way of doing business, so it needs further perfection of the rules.

Dear Eric,
I feel delighted to learn that you are coming to study in our city as an exchange student. As for how to adjust yourself to the new school life here quickly,I’d like to give you some advice.
First,I recommend that you learn the school’s rules by reading its handbook first. If possible, you may as well visit the school in advance,so that you will know the school better. Besides,it’s quite necessary to communicate with your classmates and schoolmates, which enables you to make more new friends. What’s more, participating in after-class activities can be of great help too!By doing this, not only can you improve yourself but you will get yourself involved in the group quickly.
I hope you will find the suggestions practical and don’t hesitate to turn to me any time you need help.
Looking forward to your coming.
Yours sincerely,Li Hu
