Step 1 Revision 1.Chant:Must or mustn’t

Step 1 Warm up:
Review English phonetic symbols

Step 1 Warming up
1. Remind the students of the importance of being polite.They should be polite when talking to people,walking on the street,at home and school.
2. Introduce gestures that show politeness like shaking hands and hugging people. Show the students and write the words on the board.
3. Write Hello,Excuse me and take a message on the board.Ask the students What he/she should say.
4. Ask a few students to come to the front.Tell them that they are waiting for a bus and have them line up.Recycle line up,don’t run.
5. Ask the students to recite the new words.Ask some students to act Pat.Have them say what they should do in each of the pictured situation.
Step 2 Presentation
1. Write When you…,you should…on the board.Introduce this new structure to the students saying When you meet new people,you should shake hands.Explain to them that the structure can be used to talk about something that we do each time we are in a certain situation.
2. Point to each of the pictures in turn and ask the students to tell you what is happening in each picture. Ask the the students to put a tick or a cross in each picture.
3. Ask the students to read the second part of the conversation and use the words in Ms Taylor’s thought bubble to complete the dialogue.Ask some students to role-play Pat and Ms Taylor and act out the dialogue.
Step 3 Consolidation
1. Write How are you? I’m fine, thanks. On the board. Ask the students to use when greet people and expressing thanks.
2. Mime answering the phone and having a basic conversation,then say I’m sorry, he/she isn’t/they aren’t here. Can I take a message? Explaining that taking a message when someone is not home is a sign of good manners.
3. Have two students come out and act taking on the phone and taking a message.
4. Ask the students to read notes below the conversation.
5. Ask some pair of students to come out and act the dialogue.
Step 4 Summery
1. Point to the first picture and ask the students What should you say when you answer the phone?
2. Explain to the students a magazine quiz is a quiz .Ask the students to read the questions again and give their answers honestly.
3. Ask the students to check their score by looking at the bottom of the page. Ask students to tell the class how they did.

1. Read the dialogue and the sentence.
