People are trying many ways to learn about natural disasters all the time to protect themselves.Volcanoes begin to form when the rocks of the lower plate get pushed deep into the Earth. There they are heated, until they melt, forming magma, one kind of liquid rock, because magma is less dense than the solid rock around it, it is pushed upward. If the magma finds a weak place at the Earth’s surface, it may break through and form a volcano. How is a volcano formed? Official figures stated that by June 23, 2009, 69181 had been confirmed dead, including 68,636 in Sichuan province, and 374,176 injured, with another 18,498 missing. The earthquake left about 4.8 million people homeless. Extended readingSo, how do earthquakes happen? The earth is made up of several layers. The top layer of the earth is called the earth’s crust. The crust is divided into sections which are called plates. When two plates push against each other. or when two plates rub against each other. an earthquake happens. An earthquake causes the ground above the plate to shake. The energy source of the Wenchuan earthquake mentioned above came from the strike of the Indian Plate onto the Eurasian Plate and its northward push. Earthquakes are most likely to happen at the boundaries of the earth’s plates. Each of these plates is about 70 kilometres thick.
