Last night one of my Chinese friend took me to a concert of Chinese folk music. The piece which played on the erhu especially moved me. The music was strange beautiful, but under the beauty I sensed a strong sad and pain. The erhu sounded very sad that I almost cried along with as I listened. Later I look up the history of “Moon Reflected on Second Spring”, and I begun to understand the sadness in the music.
The music was writing by a folk musician named Abing . His mother died when he was very young. Abing’s father teached him to play much musical instruments, such as the drums, dizi and erhu, and by age 17, Abing was know for his musical ability. However, after his father was dead, Abing’s life grew worse. He was very poor. Not only that, he developed a serious illness and become blind.
