My host family is really nice. They go out of their way to make me to feel at home. The grandmother know that I miss China food a lot. So she actually learned how to make Chinese food! She also has a teenager granddaughter about my age. She’s real kind and she always talk me in French to help me practice. You wouldn’t believe how quick my French improved because of that. I’m very comfortable spoke French now. Although I still make a lots of mistakes, it doesn’t worry me as it used.
My biggest challenge is learn how behave at the dinner table. As you can imagine, things are very different from the way they are in home. For example, you’re not suppose to put your bread on your plate. You’re supposed to put it on the table! I think that was pretty strangely at first, but now I’m used to it. Another example is that you’re not supposed to eat something with your hands except bread, not even fruit. You have to cut it up and eat it use a fork. Another thing is it’s polite to say that you’re full. If you don’t want any much food, you should just say, “That was delicious.” Also, you’re not supposed to put you elbows on the table. I have to say that I find that difficult to remember everything, but I’m gradually get used to it. I don’t find French customs such strange anymore.
