Learning objectives
Knowledge Objectives:
1. Get students to learn the useful new words and expressions in this part: diet, cucumber, mushroom, balance, barbecue, mutton, roast, fry, ought, bacon, slim, curiosity, hostess, raw, vinegar, lie, customer, discount, balanced diet, ought to, lose weight, get away with, tell a lie, win. . . back.
2. Let students learn the knowledge of balanced diet and nutrition.
Ability Objectives:
1. Develop students’ reading ability and let them learn different reading skills such as skimming and scanning.
2. Enable students to talk about different kinds of food, problems with diet and balanced diet.
Moral Objectives:
1. Stimulate students’ sense to form a healthy eating habit.
2. Develop students’ sense of cooperative learning.

Aim:

Task 1. Reading and choose the right answer
Aim:
To enable the students to find out the main idea of the passage
To ask Ss to read the passage quickly and silently, then find the right answer.
Ss should read the material silently to find out the answer.
Task 2. Reading and conclude the main idea of each part
Aim:
To enable the Ss to grasp the outline of the passage
To introduce the main idea of each part and let Ss to find the right order of each part.
1.Ss should skim the passage and find out the right order.
2.If necessary, disscuss in pairs.
Task 3. Reading and find the detailed information of the passage
Aim:
To enable the Ss to find out the specific information.
To provide charts for the students to fill in and questions to answer.
Ss should read the passage carefully and find the answers.

III Post-reading activities
Task 1. Summarize the main of the passage
Aim:
To enable the Ss to summarize what they have learnt from the passage
To provide some blanks for Ss to fill in.
Fill in the blanks with group members.
Read the summary loudly.
Task 2. Conclude the advantages and disadvantage of these two restaurants.
Aim:
To develop Ss’ thinking and lay a foundation for the presentation.
Help Ss to find out the strength and weakness of the two restaurants.
Conclude the strength and weakness of each restaurant.

Task 3. Design a new advertisement to attract more costumers.
Aim:
1.To use what they have learnt
2. To develop a healthy eating habit.
Help Ss summarize a balanced menu.
Rule : When one group is presenting their ideas and the rest can serve as audience and see which group attracts more students.
Discuss with group members and design their own menu.
Come to the front and give a presentation.

Aim: To encourage Ss to study English actively and independently after class
Homework;
Finish the ad after class
Finish the exercise books.

Practice more and have a preview for the next class.
Anticipated problems
It is a big challenge for students in the second term of Grade 1 to express their own ideas fluently by using what they have learned.
